I'm sure they could beat a lot of bands in the tourney so I say YES to Styx.

Was Styx left out?

Now I look and see that yes it was. So, yes, especially considering how MOI has fared.

Styx is an abomination to God.

I think your personal opinions about some bands have affected your work here.

I'm not a big fan of Styx, but they should have been included.

And how was Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band included but not Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I can understand your rationale in regards to Petty, but shouldn't that apply to Springsteen as well.

Bruce without the band sucks. Petty without the Heartbreakers is still very good.

Bruce and the ESB are waaaaaaaay more musically important than Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Tom Petty not being in sucks hard though. They should be like a 5 or 6 seed.

I think they belong way more than Faith No More.

Should "beating a lot of bands" be the only criteria? I think Derwood did a good job mixing different sounds and eras.

A band like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is very solid but not ground breaking or interesting.

I love Styx so I'm biased, but they're among the headline acts in any list of great 80s music (whether you consider that an oxymoron or not is your call).

BULL

U2, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Guns N Roses, The Replacements, Van Halen, Metallica, The Police, Michael Jackson, Prince, Pixies, The Cars, Slayer, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Madonna, The Clash, Megadeath, The Talking Heads, The Cure, Whitney Houston, Motley Crue, Ratt, Rolling Stones, Skid Row, Bryan Adams, Black Flag, Duran Duran, Pat Benetar, Queen, etc etc etc

Headline for music in the 80's? Styx?

Maybe if you live in a small town in the midwest, had a mullet, and no musical taste to speak of.

I've already said (somewhere) that I was trying not to have the tourney dominated by classic rock any more than it already is. Thus, no Styx, Journey, Foreigner, Boston, etc. You wouldn't want 9 ACC teams in the NCAA, would you?

That's harsh, but I agree w/ your point. Though I certainly wouldn't call the Stones an 80s band.

Fair point, but why no Cure? Too many goth bands?

And he taught me that Styx was one of the greatest American rock bands and they only got a bad rap because most critics are cynical assholes.
