If you really want to punish him...make him the manager of the Cubs for the next 2 years. Dusty can go to the Southside and work his magic. The pain of the 2006 Cubs is being compounded by the success of the Sox.

Am I honestly the only one who doesn't care at all about the success of the Sox?

I mean, I don't even notice them. And they're not even in the same league as we are. Up until 1997, we didn't even play them. I understand liking one team over the other, but the idea of treating the other as a "rival" and hating them has always really puzzled me.

Just because the Cubs and Sox don't play much,it doesn't mean that they aren't rivals. The majority of baseball fans in Chicago grow up as either Cubs or Sox fans. Whats the big deal about the Cubs Cards rivalry. They're just another division team that finishes above the Cubs. The Cards fans look at the Cubs as a joke. The Cards go to the playoffs and the Cubs get lucky and finish over 500. Notre Dame plays Navy every year in football but the teams are basically at 2 different levels.

The Sox fans have always had this anti-Cubs agenda since before interleague play. IDK about Cubs fans hating the Sox before then, but I know come October, "I sure as heck ain't rootin' for the White Sox or Cardinals."

here, here.

It has to have something to do with growing up in chicago (which I did not).

I've never cared one way or another about them. I actually pulled for them to win the WS because I just couldn't bring myself to root for the astros.

As a matter of fact, I can't think of any mlb team that I "hate." I love the Cubs.

I don't dislike other people who like other teams.

I go to games to cheer for the cubs, not talk crap about the opposition.

Back to topic (oops). I'm sure things might be different if I were a native chicagoan.

I rather root for the cardinals than the white sox anyday...I know its different for everyone.. I just have a deep hatred for the white sox and their fans...I rather have the cardinals win a world series than the white sox anyday...maybe its because i grew up on the southside and all my friends and all i see are sox fans...i just despise it... you bet last year i was rootin for the astros to win...I know the sox have a great team..im jealous we dont have that over here.... so i dont root for the sox 162 games a year.. so why in the hell should i root for them in a playoff game or the world series...im not " fairweather" " city" fan.. whatever u call it... im die hard cubs fan till i die...no matter how much they suck ill always be there and i know u will alll be there too

I grew up in Chicago, and I still think it's stupid.

It's ridiculous. The Cardinals ARE a rival. They're a division team. That makes sense. Even the Mets, same league (plus the '69 history) makes sense. The Sox "rivalry?" Sorry, not so much. It's dumb. Makes as much sense to me as making rivals of the Royals or pre-97 or 98 Brewers (whenever they made the league switch).

They're just an AL team. Who cares about the AL anyway?

I'm a baseball fan who follows both the AL and NL.

I grew up in Chicago, on the South side, and I have always been a Cubs fan. I dislike the White Sox much more than the Cardinals (and I'm sure the geographical distance plays a role...) however, I know the Cardinals are a bigger concern because they are a divisional foe. Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of just ignoring the Sox because many of their fans are confrontational (and it didn't just happen as a result of winning a championship). If I'm minding my own business, while wear Cubs' gear, I become an easy target for unsolicited jeers. I still don't "care" about the Sox but given a choice, I would rather they lose (and I was rooting for Houston in the WS).

They play baseball in the AL?

You caught me before I edited and yeah, they sure do.

i've enjoyed the last 2 games.

Me too. Always nice when the Cardinals lose. I may hate the Sox, but I hate the Cardinals above all, and I know they're the real enemy.

I agree...although my feelings towards the Sox are more of an ambivilence...Hate is a strong word...I save that for the birds.

Same here (well, suburbs actually). Half my aunts/uncles/cousins are WS fans. Some of my childhood friends were WS fans. My next door neighbor was a huge fan, had season tickets, and gave them to me quite frequently. I went to the games and had a good time just as I go now to Yankees and Mets games without being a fan of either. I've never put any stock in the "rivalry". They are just a team the Cubs play 6 times a year now. Less meaningful than the Padres.

My thoughts excatly. Same happens to me. This is the reason why I don't want to trade with them unless we get an arm or a leg. Whenever a Sox fan talks smack to me, I just want to sock them in the face. That's how much I hate their fans. I also hate Cardinals fans. They are the most obnoxious people ever.

Wanting to punch somebody who talks smack to you? About baseball no less? I'm no shrink but that's neither healthy nor normal.

I want to sock people in the face all the time, but the fact that I have the self control not to makes me both healthy and normal.

What is the situation though? Somebody verbally harassing you is one thing but somebody making jokes about your baseball team is completely different.

I don't really care about the White Sox that much and definately don't consider them to be our rivals.

I did pull for the Astros in the World Series last year but that was because of the AJ Pierzynski situation more than anything but also because they beat the Red Sox. I also didn't want their drought to end. But if the Sox played the Cards in the World Series this year I would pull for the Sox no questions asked.

I really hate it when someone posts / says "XYZ team's fans are jerks / idiots /etc."

All teams have douchebag fans. . . .even the mariners ;)

That their fans are rude, dumb, and obnoxious, and constantly gloat about the White Sox winning and the Cubs losing, and being happy when Lee broke his wrist. I also have the self control to refrain from smashing a Sox fan. Or like at my prom, when I was sitting around, this stupid Sox fan came up to me and asked me about the play (barrett-a.j.) and started laughing. I'm like, I didn't see it. He keeps going on. I'm like, "do you understand english? I didn't see it. I have a life unlike you." he keeps going on and on.

All the Cardinals fans I know are sensible good-natured folk who are great to talk baseball with. On the other hand, White Sox fans are an insufferable lot.

And you can't possibly tell me that if the Cubs had won the World Series you wouldn't have gloated to all of the White Sox fans you know. I realize that you may have gone about the ribbing in a different way than the White Sox fan went about it but ribbing is ribbing. Sometimes it's not a big deal.
