Doubtful, but I wonder if they might just start Samardzija in Peoria.

Nah. Given how raw he is, I'm kind of surprised that he doesn't go to Mesa (I guess it's the whole got to woo him away from football thing).

I think we might see Downs and Blevins from Boise's roster in Peoria. Seeing who goes to Peoria as catcher will be interesting. I'd guess a draft pick IF will replace Mota on the Peoria roster.

I am surprised that the Cubs promoted Mota (.276/.326/.322, 13 Ks, 7 BBs; age 19) over Chirinos (.269/.383/.408, 35 Ks, 39 BBs, age 22), who held his own at Daytona last season. The Cubs seem to like Mota; a 19-year SS promoted to high-A is rather impressive.

Veal got promoted? There goes that prediction of mine, haha.

I wonder how much of this is temporary while the Cubs figure matters out with the new draftees, Barrett's suspension, Wade Miller getting rehab time, and so on?

Didn't see this one coming. Corresponding move at West Tenn?

i did! (j/k)

ha ha, good call. I probably should've added more to my original statement. At the time, I didn't see any mention of Reyes getting promoted to AAA. When I was asked earlier about the possibility of a Fox promotion to AA, I said it wouldn't happen with Reyes on the Jaxx roster. With that being said, I wouldn't have seen a Fox promotion coming with Reyes staying in West Tennessee.

No. Oneri told me today he is going to Boise tomorrow. I asked if we would see Jeff in peoria before he goes back to South Bend and Oneri said, Maybe, we'll See. I hope so.

The word I heard at the game this afternoon was that Mota was going to be going up to be a bench guy, only playing about every 5th game or so. Given this, it makes more sense that he goes than Chirinos, who is thriving playing every day (and Mota hasn't been playing in Peoria more than about every 3 days or so here...)

Thanks!

I'm kind of disappointed then that Mota has been relegated to a bench role at such a young age.

who knows if Mota will stay in that role permanently. It may be purely a situational thing, I'm not sure, but he does have a decent amount of work to do compared to our other infielders at this point.

Daytona update:

Joining Daytona over the past few days have been Roberto Sotolongo (RHP), Donald Veal (LHP) Jonathan Mota (INF) and Jake Muyco ©. Both Sotolongo and Veal will be in the five man rotation, at least for the time being as Grant Johnson is still on the DL. Another Cubs player on the DL is Issmael Salas. Salas hopes to back in blue soon and he wants to thank everybody for their kind words and that he hopes to be back soon!

From what I've gathered, Salas is a fan favorite in Daytona.

Sotolongo started the last game of the first half for Daytona and did pretty well (4 shutout innings, 5 Ks).

For the record, Clay Rapada was promoted on June 21st.

Probably the wrong thread, but I've been on vacation and out of the loop for a bit. But have any of the Prior or Lee or other promotions had any 40-man impact? Was Prior on the 60-day DL, or am I wrong about that? If so, who got bumped when he got called up? It was Rusch for the 25-man roster, I guess, but that wouldn't help with the 40-man.

Or am I all crazy, and Prior was never on the 60-day, nor Lee either?

If somebody needed bumping, I'd figure Jose "I'm-even-a-long-shot-to-blossom-into-Paul-Bako-hitter" Reyes would be the best candidate, although Jerome Williams or Theriot could be fair alternates as well.

If Miller eventually does come back, that too will need to bump one of those guys, or maybe Dopirak could be another candidate.

Neither Prior nor Lee were on the 60. Rusch was DL'd when Prior was activated, and Fast Freddie Bynum was DL'd when Lee was activated.

Prior was on the 60 day DL.

That is correct, don't know what I was thinking. Pagan was moved from the 15 to the 60 when Prior was activated.
