Jesus. How fast is Ozzie going to run himself out of town when things get tough? The White Sox aren't going to win forever and when they start losing in a few years, Ozzie is going to be run out of town so fast it is going to make your head spin.

IMO, that will never happen. The Sox (and their fans) consider Guillen to be "one of their own", and he is widely loved because he acts like a prick.

Just wait. Because they are winning, everything is gumdrops, lollipops, and rainbows everywhere. When things start getting tough and Ozzie is completely out of control (these instances will increase in frequency when things aren't going well) people will turn on him, and fast.

Let's not try to act like the White Sox fan base isn't fickle. The Sox could barely half fill the stadium up until the all-star break last year.

Ozzie will say something that will make John Rocker say WHA?!?! It's only a manner of time.

Things were getting a little hot for Ozzie last year before the White Sox exploded.

"He's a piece of [bleep]," Guillen told reporters late last week. "He's another Venezuelan [bleep]. [bleep] him. He thinks he's got an enemy? No, he's got a big one. He knows I can [bleep] him over in a lot of different ways. He better shut the [bleep] up and just play for the Detroit Tigers."

Read this article, he is taking some pretty heavy criticism. Imagine when the team stinks and he is saying stuff like this (and he will)? See ya...good bye.

Ozzie was faced with the problem of having one of his pitchers nail a Ranger. Since they are going to lose Brian Anderson soon because of the Cubs-Sox fight, they will be one man short anyway. If Vasquez nails a Ranger, he gets tossed and no suspension. Old school says Vasquez should take care of it. He didn't do it. It was his catcher they nailed twice. So now Ozzie must send in a rookie pitcher to finish the deal. They could always use the excuse of the rookie being wild and people would have bought it. He missed, but at least he tried. Now Ozzie blows up because he knows he can't plunk anybody now, because it's too obvious. The umps will probably warn the Sox before tonight's game.

If there was no DH and the pitcher was allowed to bat, it would have been taken care of and that would be that. Old school pitchers like Gibson, Drysdale, Marichal, etc.. would have taken care of it-pronto.

Gibson rarely hit batters.

True. My dad, while being a big Cubs fan, was almost as big a fan of Gibson and constantly preached to me about him. Gibson had too much pride to plunk anyone; he just had surgical control and owned the inside of the plate.

Legend has it he knew how to make his brush-back pitches louder than his other pitches. (same with Sandy Koufax)

Plus Gibson had to go to the plate and hit. That's why I hate the American League and the DH: just stupid.

BTW: Did you know that Gibson was the 2nd best hitting pitcher of the modern era? He was sometimes used as a pinch hitter. He was also a Harlem Globe Trotter for a short time before playing baseball.

A lot of this probably had to do with the fact Showalter and Guillen hate each other. It's kinda sad Tracey's stint had to be ruined by a pissing match on who could be more "old school".

Tonight's game will be interesting, considering Buehrle isn't against plunking guys and he hates the Rangers (see: infamous "lights" conspiracy).

No, Buerhle didn't say that because he hates the rangers. It is just because he extremely stupid.

I'm confused why he didn't have Vazquez plunk a Ranger. The Sox were going to lose anyway, Vazquez was going to be taken out soon..why didn't Ozzie just have Vazquez throw at a Ranger?

Ozzie went to the extreme of chewing out Tracey, but I wish Busty would do that more. And as I'm typing this right now, I'm seething at how much I hate Baker.

Carry on.

And is a gigantic prick.

FYI: Sox rank 10th in attendance this year and - get this - rank TWENTY NINTH in road attendance, just 50 people a game ahead of Anaheim. Just over 55% of the stadiums are filled when the defending champs come to town. Now THAT'S devotion.

I think it is due to Hawk Harrelson. Most people who follow baseball probably have heard/seen him on WGN TV and realize they want nothing to do with anything he's a part of.

According to Kurkjian on ESPN, Tracey was going to be sent down anyway to make room for the just acquired David Riske. I wonder if Guillen sent the kid out there in case the intended beaning resulted in one or more suspensions -- Vazquez wouldn't lose a start and Tracey would serve a meaningless 10 days either in the minors or when he's called back in September (depending on how the suspension rules work).

Hard to respect a manager who treats rookies like cannon fodder, but Tracey will learn this is what its like to live near the replacement level.

Line drive off Buehrle's head plz.

I'm game.

So when Steve Kline suggest that Mark Prior get hit by one, it's wrong, and it's okay for two of us to say it.

I'm becoming less and less proud to be a Cub fan with comments lke this. There's a 4-page thread on Ozzie Guillen, a manager with a World Series ring and a competitive team this year, and it's all negative. So many "real" Cub fans talk about how obsessed with the Cubs Sox fans are, and how they're fickle, and don't exist. Judging by this section of the board and half the people that are/were Cub "fans," many of us aren't too far from that either.

I feel like making some of you feel like that Sox pitcher last night. Grow up. I find it real tough to criticize a manager who just brought a World Series to a town where our manager does nothing but underachieve and make excuses. Yes, it was wrong, but how many of you wouldn't trade Guillen for Baker?

You can have them both and I will take what is behind curtain #3.

If there weren't a DH this kind of crap wouldn't happen.

I don't know if you did this knowingly or if it is a coincidence, but you just said the same thing using the exact words that Hawk Harrelson did during the broadcast of the game when it was all taking place.

Hahaha, Derwood = Hawk Harrelson!!!

I can understand why so many Cub fans hate Buehrle because of all of the comments he has made about Wrigley in the past, how he was a Cardinal fan growing up, ect. But I think it's bush for anyone hoping someone gets hit with a linedrive. That is pretty disgusting.

I like how Ozzie protects his players, but he isn't afraid to chew them out when they are wrong. Unfortunately, Ozzie handled the situation last night really wrong by having a rookie continue the beanball war. He snapped after a loss a few weeks ago because the team wasn't executing and wasn't hitting well with RISP. Of course as a Cubs fan, this is a lost cause because we can't hit period and we can't hit at all with RISP. I'd like a guy with Ozzie's firey attitude to get his point across to this team instead of a zombie-like manager in Baker where it's the same stuff everyday. "The guys played real hard, we just gotta keep fighting dude," or, "Yeah that Sampson kid...whew, he's going to be a good one," or "man I can't explain it, the guys are busting their butts out there right now." I'm sick of Baker and the bum needs to go.

But seriously, I don't blame Tracey for what he didn't do. What happens if the pitch he uncorks at Blalock hits him in the face and ends his career? Now HIS career is ruined all because his manager is a prick who couldn't fight his own battles.

It's just a bad situation all-together. If AJP hadn't been plunked twice - clearly intentionally - then the Sox wouldn't "have" to retaliate. How many times in the last few years have the we been in beaning wars with the Astros and Cards. Mainly it was Prior, Wood, and Z (since they're the only ones who throw hard in the division), and I loved it. You root for your guys to knock the others on their butt.

When (what's his name) hit Sosa back in '04, I still dont' even think he intended to hit him. That's baseball: accidents happen. Guys get hit with balls thrown at 90 mph, bats get thrown/broken, bad hops/line drives come back at someone... you can't NOT take action out of fear of that.

That being said, someone said earlier that Tracy was asked to bean since he was being demoted anyway. I'm sure Ozzie was just pissed because he had to use someone else (tonight) to continue the war and end up being suspended. Makes sense to me. I mean, I do think Ozzie was wrong, but the outcry over this is silly. If Tracy had done his job, this isn't talked about.

For the record, while the comments by Kline annoyed me at first, I now think they are pretty hilarious. Especially considering the fact that he also told La Russa that he was No. 1 in his own special way the following season. :)

Ozzie sticks up for AJ.

Maybe Padilla doesn't like him. ... If you play against A.J., you hate him; if you play with him, you hate him less.

Again, there's absolutely no excuse for MLB not suspending Guillen after he makes those comments and behaves the way he did in the dugout.

The one thing that sort of shocks me is that they don't fine him for his cursing. I'm not saying they necesarily should, but I think if this was the NBA and it was as consistent with a head coach as it is with Ozzie then David Stern would be laying down the fines.

I'm not really in favor of it, but I would hope that someday Ozzie comes to realize that it sounds rather foolish when he drops these words practically in every sound bite. And also that there are kids watching.

whats lost in all of this is the strength of Tracey himself for NOT throwing at Blalock..

kudos, kid.

Whatever. This was not some act of bravery by Tracey. He *wanted* to hit Hank, but simply missed because of his inexperience. He just failed to execute. This is like giving Hinckley credit for not killing Reagan.

I don't think Ozzie really cares. He's a jock doing his job, and I don't think he's trying to win baseball games, not cultivate a culture. I grew up watching Bob Knight throw basketball chairs and Coach K berate refs... doesn't mean I do the same when I coach as an adult. I think most people can separate that.

I can understand a fine, but not a suspension. He was angry, but he could have done much worse. No water coolers were hurt, were they? :D Seriously, he could have actually ordered another "hit," and then I'm sure his suspension would be huge taking into account the measures he went to make sure it happened.

If MLB started fining and suspending managers for saying inappropriate things, then Dusty would be fined on a weekly basis.
