Been a looong time since posting last. Prior looked strong. He struck out the first four batters on minimal pitches, and 7 through 3 innings. He looked overpowering at times, although I am wondering if the outfield mph meter was off, because he was consistently 90-91 mph on his fastball. His offspeed stuff was tough. Theriot looked very solid in the field, especially on one great diving catch on a popup to shallow left center. He made solid contact on every at bat. Pie looked like he was overmatched against the Zephyr's lefty striking out on I think 7 total pitches in 2 at bats, and only a little better against the righty reliever. Defense overall was not too steady, although Soto threw out 2 base stealers. By the way, about 60% of the crowd was wearing Cubs gear. A standing ovation for Prior when he was taken out, who allowed 1 unearned run through 6 1/3 on a bad error through the legs of Fontenot.

That's great to hear. I think he could skip his next minor league start and come back to the majors. Whoa....does this mean no more Rusch starts ever??

Until Prior gets hurt again, yes

Give him at least one more rehab start. Take no chances. Watch him like a hawk...if even the slightest thing seems "off," sweet Lord, shut him down! I couldn't take Prior becoming the next Wood...they need to work with kid gloves if necessary and get him back to the Prior greatness we all know and love for 2007. This year is not worth damaging him over...he and Z NEED to be the pitching anchors over the next few years.

My favorite part of Prior's night was when he got into the only real trouble of the night, and Theriot made that diving catch. Mark waitied for him at the top steps of the dugout, and yelled something to the effect of "That's why your going to Chicago!" I was 3 rows behind the Cubs' dugout. He was intense all night. He also had a nice line drive hit. Man, number 4, the third baseman looked out of place the whole game...bad defense, weak swings at the plate...

Give him at least two more starts. We want him pretty much all the way back to form before he makes it to the majors.

Sounds like Hendry and Dusty have him well trained to join the big club.

Glad he looked good. Hard to say if the gun was off, or if that's Prior's top speed right now.

Have to wait for a few more starts, either at the minor league level or in Chicago.

But Prior said he was going to approach this as more of a regular start, and he did in fact dominate. So I'm glad for that.

I think the danger with Prior has been overworking him at a young age. He's not another Wood in the way that Wood's throwing motion is god awful and he's lucky he was able to put together 3 years of good baseball. As long as Prior isn't overextended, it really doesn't matter where he pitches. It sounds like he's taking the same approach as he normally does. If he develops any other tendonitis or something, then by all means shut him down.

I would like to see one more rehab start by Prior.

As would I. Can't hurt and no reason to rush him up here.

If Prior is gonna be here next year (and he will). . He needs to get into some winter workout regimin. He should hang out with Z and see what he does during the offseason. Prior needs to come to ST in shape and ready to pitch. Not 2 months behind like always. .

I'm pretty sure Prior has a computer already.

I would prefer that too.

Listening to last night's game, his control and location is back and his curve was really sharp last night, so I'm pretty pleased.
