Could Marshall and Marmol be the modern day Wood and Prior......minus the DL stops? We have seen a small sample size, and it looks good so far.

"Modern day?"

Sarcasim. Just about everyone on this board thinks Wood and Prior are washed up and will never live up to their hype.

Now every time I picture Prior and Wood, I can only see them having those old time-y handlebar moustaches.

i'm just concerned that the NL only gives out one cy young award each year. hopefully these guys can force a rule change.

I was going to suggest a rule change where they give a Cy Young to the best pitcher whose last name begins with each letter, but they both begin with M!! Curses!!

I can't beleive you guys are actually saying this. Marshal and Marmol are GOOD pitchers. That is all!! . . . . . by the way I detect your obvious sarcasm and am kidding myself.

i would just love to see a rotation anchored by guys like... BigZ, Marshall, Marmol, Prior..... not a bad 4 and add a 5 from either.. farm/trade/FA.....

too bad we traded a guy who couldve been with us right now too.. Nolasco! but typical cubs... hope they dont trade the studs in the minors right now!

You can make a case for both of them.

Wood's done as a Cub, but I still have some hope left for Prior. When he blows out his arm in his next rehab start it will all be gone though.

I like Marmol and Marshall (Marmol a little more) and hope both of them continue his success, but this is probably a little early to make that prediction. Before this year, Marshall had basically no time above A-ball, and Marmol is making the leap from AA.

Though, I really love what both of them have been doing so far and hope they keep it up.

I wouldn't get too excited yet. Marmol, for one, is going to have to vary his game a little, or veteran teams like the cards and astros are going to treat him like a batting practice rag doll. Two pitches won't do it at this level, but he knows that, seems like a good kid, anyone asking for advice from Maddux and being public about it has his head screwed on straight. Wood is done. Prior...there's still hope.

I just think that it is really fun to watch these 2 pitch. It just reminds me of 03 with Wood and Prior. If Prior rights the ship and the M & M Boys continue to impress and improve.......WOW. Then throw in Big Z, the "ace" and you have yourself a WS caliber rotation. I just love the way Marshall sits with Mad Dog in the dugout. Soak it up like a sponge Sean.

same here, i think the more Marshall and Marmol keep learning from Maddux the better they can get!

Marmol has been mixing in a change in his outings.

one good start by marmol and marshall's 4.43 era remind you of prior's near cy young season and wood's 14 win, 3.19 era and amazing pitching down the stretch leading the cubs to the postseason? that's some imagination you got there.

What IS nice to see is the Cubs farm system developing a long train of potential starters. I see Marshall, Marmol, and Guzman being the back end of the Cubs rotation next year if Maddux does return.

Huh? Marmol threw 4 pitches yesterday (4-seamer, 2-seamer, breaking ball, changeup).

While I agree it's a stretch. He's just basically excited to see some pretty decent young guys step up and possibly be our pitchers next year. Don't put a downer on that please!! You have to remember also that marshalls ERA is inflated by that one inning where he gave up like 6 or 7 runs. He's had a handful of only giving up 1-3 runs per game.

4 of his 12 starts he's been pretty bad(4 ER/4.1 IP, 4 ER/5 IP, 9 ER/3.2 IP, 7 ER/3.1 IP), so it's not like one or two outings are really skewing his numbers.

You are right, he has to be more consistant. But I beleive his ERA would be under 4.00 if it weren't for that 1 outinng. He's shown more promising stuff that far outweights those bad outings. And he's looked to put together better, more consistant outings lately.
