Thinking about past drafts, the Cubs have had some doosys for first round picks, off the top of my head:

 

Pawelek - looks like a keeper but he hasn't pitched above the rookie league

Johnson - meh, jury is still out but he's been unimpressive as a first rounder IMO

 

Techincally, Pawelek had two starts last season in Boise and Grant was a second rounder.

 

The Cubs have a long and dark history of 1st round picks.

Johnson - meh, jury is still out but he's been unimpressive as a first rounder IMO

Minnesota's often held up as a bastion of player selection and development and the Cubs have done far better with their first rounders than Minny.

Dallas Buck goes to the D-Backs...they've really stocked up on good pitching so far in the draft. Scherzer, Brown, Anderson, and Buck.
