Well, if we have any shot at all of even possibly getting back in this thing, here is our chance. Lee is just around the corner, as is Prior. Our offense is finally scoring some runs, and on top of all this, the NL Central is DEAD right now. Pujols is going to miss the next six weeks, the Stro's are in an ICEcold streak, the Reds are falling back down to earth, the brewers pitching staff is hospitalized, and the pirates are worse then we ever were.

So, in short, if we want to make a move, now is the time. But lets take it one step at a time, just win.

It's highly improbable, but it's is possible and like you said now is the time to make the move.

What has to happend Cubs-wise

1 - Starting Pitching

A - Wood and Prior have to stay healthy and work towards being 100 percent and effective for the stretch

B - Z has to keep it up.

C - Marshall has to continue to improve

2 - Lee has to come back and hit nearly right away

3 - Jacque needs to keep hitting around what he is now

4 - Murton needs to bring his game up

5 - ARAM START BEING CONSISTENT

6 - back end of the pen has to stay dominant

7 - less neifi the better

8 - Pierre 'The frog' please get on base

We also need to play the triangle defense game and prevent Craig Wilson from going to St. Louis as a replacement for Pujols.

After all Hendry has said about quality players costing too much in trade and all, I wouldn't be the least bit surpised if the Cards get Wilson for John Rodriguez.

The only thing that the Cubs should be thinking about is tomorrows game. It's really heartbreaking to win 5 of your last 7 and still remain 10 games under .500. Just keep winning and maybe we can get our hopes up again. Long way to go though.

It's much more depressing to listen to MLB.TV, get the Astros feed, hear the Astros announcers talk about their team hitting rock bottom after today's game, then looking at the standings and realizing that the Astros would only be 4 games under .500 if they lost today.

14th place in the NL. Ain't no team can come back from 14th place.

Houston was 15th place last year on May 24. I'm by no means saying that the Cubs are going to pull a Houston because I don't think the Cubs are as good as the 2005 Astros. I'm just saying it's possible.

Just have to be #1 in the central. If the Cubs climb & the Cardinals drop (SHOULD at least some) in the next couple of weeks they have a shot to make th division reace interesting.

It's insane to think that this team has a shot, but stranger things have happend AND you got to at least hold out some hope... it's the Cub way.

That's a good point. The Padres were only 7th in the NL at the end of the year last year and they ended up in the playoffs.

Even when Lee gets back, if we are getting back in this we need another bat. LF or 2B are the only possible spots because Hendry <3's Pierre.

Soriano or Lee plz.

I am not convinced that they are done yet. Lots of ball to play still. They have to keep up this pace though, and probably have to have at least one prolonged win streak (8-10 games).

It's not just that now is the time because of what else is happening in the league. Now is the time because later will be too late. They need to get back over .500 by the trading deadline to have a real shot at it, and it's very difficult to make up 10 games in less than 9 weeks.

If the season ended today (did I say that in June?) Reds win the wild card. so really just have to be #2 in the central.
