Wade Miller makes Wood and Prior look like iron men.

How so? Neither of them got the surgery he did.

Wood did.

He did? I thought he got a "less serious" version of the same procedure than Miller did. Ah well, shows why I never even made it to flunking out of medical school.

I'm pretty sure this is true. Woody's surgery involved just a cleanup. He didn't have a tear. Miller did have a tear in his shoulder that had to be repaired.

There are varying degrees to the "tear" (fraying is a slight tear), but the procedure, recovery, etc. are all the same.

Really... it was a good signing (tons of upside!) but there is a reason he was only signed for $1 million or whatever.

Let's face it: this was a low-risk, high-reward deal... but the chances of it paying off were more bad than good.

Didn't we sign Dempster to the same type of deal though?

We signed both Williamson and Dempster for two year deals and they both have worked out well. I think Miller is a one year deal .

Ok. I didn't know the differing lengths of the deals. I was referring to the "signing an injured pitcher to a deal and hoping he works out" sort of thing. But thanks for the info on the lengths of the deals.

Dusty's man love for unproductive veterens and Cubs unwillingness to make Wood a reliever = Marshall being sent to AAA or bullpen, and the Cubs screwing up something good. What I think

Are you saying Marshall is a better starting option than Kerry Wood?

I can't see Wood being effective out of the bullpen right now. With all the shoulder stiffness he's been having there's no way he could pitch in back to back games or even 2 every other day.

What I think is Marshall is better than Miller. He has proven he can be a reliable (and good) starting pitcher. What I'd like to see is keep Marshall on regular rest. You just KNOW at some point Wood or Prior are going to miss a start. That's when you use miller.

Marshall is a rookie, so he doesn't have a major league track record. I agree with Vance. And I don't think the Cubs should send Marshall down. I like the idea of six starters, with Wood, Prior, and Miller being given extra rest is a good idea. The question is--and I'm sorry if I posted and the answer was already given--is the idea workable?
