I think the medical term for such a "tear" is an episiotomy. Actually, it isn't technically a tear, but a cut to prevent a tear.

Please don't take me seriously...

Am I the only one who got this? Really quite clever and amusing way of calling someone a name.

If you guys want to converse about this over PM, by all means go ahead, but it's not really on topic, so lets not continue it here.

If you heard it, it seemed like Prior was trying to say the injury was more serious than everybody thinks. He was talking about how he knows his body the best and knows what is wrong when something happens. He wasn't just trying to give an alternate definition of a strain.

LOL, maybe saying it's a strain is the alternate definition.

From Olney's article.

Strains and tears are all the talk in Chicago as it relates to Prior. I’ve had general managers and media relations directors tell me that teams will say “strain” to minimize how serious an injury sounds, and in fact, a strain is a tear; the question is to what degree there is tearing (or straining).”

But yeah, he's probably pissed because he's a laughingstock now because of rothschild and the cubs.

Why then when Rothschild was on the Score a few days ago did he say there was nothing physically wrong wiht Prior? Why didn't Prior tell the media there was a tear? Did the Cubs tell him not to tell the truth or did they warn him not to say anything?

Christ almighty, when was Rothschild considered credible by anyone? He's a joke. As is the Cubs' track record when it comes to any injury, big or small.

Can we just nickname Prior "corey" before we run him out of town? The Cubs blabbed a lot about his lack of heart, too. I heard Steve Stone on the radio saying how friggin stupid the Cubs are for trashing players before trying to trade them and then ending up with crap in trades. He used Sammy, Corey and all the rumors about Prior as the example.

It's sad to say, but I think it's all about p.r. They don't want fans mad at them for trading their favorite players, so they tear (no pun) them down until they're hated.

At least it sure seems that way.........

You'd think all sports writers would be familiar with what a strain is by now.

Guess not.

In a sense, the Cubs are now in a no-win situation because of their failure to report injuries accurately in the past. Rothschild saying basically that there was nothing wrong with Prior (most people seemed to interpret what he said as this; I didn't hear him) further confused the whole injury reporting scenario and basically set up the "either Prior was injured or he's craaaazy" situation.

Sullivan in the Trib[/url]"] "I don't use the term `tear' unless it's pretty significant. You think of tears, in my opinion, when you look at anterior cruciate ligament tears, or anything that has to be surgically repaired. . . . In trying to translate that to everybody, I still feel very comfortable and confident in the way we revealed the injury in spring training. And [a moderate strain] is what it is.

"I went back and looked at everything, just trying to dot our i's and cross our t's, and it's a moderate strain to the subscapular area. Can a moderate strain be correlated with a tear? I think anytime you have soreness or irritation to your muscles, there are micro tears that are going on. It's just the severity of the muscle involved.

"You have Grade 1 (tears) and Grade 2 and Grade 3. Grade 1 and Grade 2 are things that, especially with muscles, would never be treated surgically. If it's a Grade 3 tear, then you have to look at it, and that's a complete tear. But a Grade 2 strain, again, we feel very comfortable with the way we revealed the injury."

O'Neal spoke to Prior on Friday to let him know the Cubs were going to explain that a "tear" is the same thing as a "moderate strain."

Oh, and this.

Prior also sustained triceps soreness while rehabbing in Mesa, Ariz., last month, a problem not previously revealed. The triceps soreness, along with an illness that was diagnosed as either food poisoning or the flu, caused a delay in his rehabilitation.
