Everybody knows about the NTC, but here are a couple of other facts:

1: Kerry's wife is from Chicago, and from all accounts has no desire to move from her hometown.

2: Kerry absolutely loves being a Cub, for whatever it's worth.

Considering he hasn't pitch much since his contract extension three yrs ago, he has little to no leverage in contract talks, and with his wife wants to stay in Chicago, KW might be amendable to 2 yr deal worth 5/6 mill per (with incentives, OF COURSE) to re-sign with the Cubs. I seriously doubt KW will get anything near what AJ got last yr. So I didn't say he would take it, but I said he MIGHT be amendable to a paycut type deal. So with that said...I don't see KW waiving his NTC, unless a contract extension is work out with his new team, and given his history...no team is going to give him the extension after giving up a couple of solid prospects for him.

So, I believe KW will be a Cubs in 2007.

Wood + Prior for ARod + Cash?

Leaves us a bit thin in the pitching department, no? Also, which one of Aramis, Cedeno, or Walker would you bench/trade to make room for Rodriguez in the lineup?

Counter proposal: Wood + Aramis for Arod + cash. (Mostly to reduce Arod's cost toward the end of his deal.)

I'd try Wood + Cedeno + Harvey for Arod + cash, but your deal would be my plan B.

Get him healthy and then make a deal. A couple thoughts, I would make deals for only the stud OF and catching prospects only. This ARod trade would be the exception. The Yanks are desperate for younger pitching and depending if Clemens signs with the Red Sox, they would be forced to make a move.

Wood, Rameriz, Jones and Rich Hill for ARod and OF/C prospect.

Or Wood to D-Backs for 2 of their top OF prospects and Stephen Drew. The Cubs would pick up the majority of Wood's money this year. Stick Drew at SS and move Cedeno to 2nd.

Why not ask them for a billion dollars too? (If we're going to propose pie-in-the-sky trades with absolutely no chance of ever occurring, let's really make them fun)

I dont know why everyone is thinking the Cubs are going to get "TOP" prospects in return for Wood. Its not like the other GM's are in the dark about Wood they all know he has had injury problems they all know he isnt worth top prospects. Wood has to pitch his way back to the way he was in 03 for the cubs to even get a top prospect in return.

I would gladly, happily, jump up and down trade Wood and Ramirez for A-Rod. Shoot, we'd SAVE money on that deal, we'd probably have to send George some $$, hah!

And if I got A-Rod, I'd put him back at SS where he has max value, it's a lot easier finding a 3B instead.

Prior's value is as low as it will ever be right now, so I keep him out of the two, even though I like Wood better (at least Kerry pitches when hurt). OTOH, I don't see any way Wood returns to the Cubs next year, so if you can get value for him now, shoot yes, I trade him.

A-Rod is pie in the sky though, unfortunately.

I'm not sure the GM's between Santo and Ramirez would agree!

Thank you! It drives me crazy that so many say the Cubs haven't had a third baseman since Santo (until Ramirez). Bill Madlock won two batting titles for the Cubs! Why do so many forget his contributions? It is not his fault they were too cheap to keep him!

Do you guys think there is any chance that Wood allows the Cubs to decline his big option and sign with the club for a much lower (and more fair) price?

Afterall, they paid him for 1999 and 2005. Yes, I know he was under contract, etc, etc etc.

Just a thought.

I'm on record as being the biggest Madlock fan on the board, dang I was heartbroke the day he was traded. Along with Ryno and Big Daddy, my three favorite Cubs of all time.

I think there's an excellent chance the Cubs decline his option, and Wood might give the Cubs a small [wife's] hometown discount compared to what he can get on the open market. But if someone offers him a guaranteed $30 mil/3 year deal I doubt he signs a one year $5 mil plus incentives with the Cubs.

If just one one of the 29 other teams out there has a much larger value on Wood at the end of this year than the Cubs do, it's likely he walks.

With a decent statistical showing this season, I think it's more likely the Cubs pick up the option and eventually extend him with a contract that makes us all say "huh?". It will be hard for another team to lure him away with 3/30 when the Cubs have 4/60 on the table.

Second biggest. Did you cry when he was traded? I did. I was only 4 or 5.
