Down in the Rookie League, Prior's velocity is such a concern that some wonder if he'll return to the big leagues this season.

*sigh*

I love this gem:

The Rev. Johnnie B.? He keeps chewing his toothpicks, rolling up his wristbands and comparing the Cubs to the 2005 Houston Astros, who started 15-30 before staging a dramatic turnaround and reaching the World Series. That Baker would make such a ludicrous parallel as his team was being embarrassed by the Marlins, whose $14.9 million payroll is lower than the salaries of a dozen major-league players, shows just how delusional he has become.

I don't usually agree with Mariotti's columns, but the last couple have been pretty spot-on, in my opinion. He'll still drop the weak little "Tribster" lines that annoy me since I don't so much see the Cubs' struggles as directly tied to payroll (it's pretty high), but I can get past those if he continues to echo my feelings that something needs to be done.

I'm certainly not a Mariotti fan but this article is good and really what quite a few NSBB posters have been saying.

Maybe Mariotti has been trolling these boards for his ideas.

I've said it before in a couple of other threads, I wouldn't be surprised if Prior doesn't pitch this year. I have no inside knowledge of course but just a "gut" feeling. Something is wrong with the guy.

I already accepted the apparent fact he won't throw an inning for the Cubs this season, 2007 and beyond? 50-50

Dusty's hoping to get back to .500? Question: How long does it take to get to .500 with series of 1 win, 2 losses and 0 wins, 3 losses? Answer: Forever!!!!!! Get him out of here immediately!!!!!!

Makes it kind of hard to trade him for Tejada or Cabrera.

Actually the correct answer under that scenario would be Never.

Yes, fire him now. Do something.

You know things are real bad when we are agreeing with that ass clown Jay Mariotti. :(

That term always makes me laugh. The next time a Cub player makes me angry, I will shout it at the television. I believe it will make me feel better.

If Prior doesn't pitch at all this year, I would start to worry about his career being in jeopardy.

I've accepted that he's pretty much finished. I put the blame squarely on Baker.

I don't know if Baker is directly responsible, but he certainly did nothing to HELP the matter.

Mariotti is an angry, spiteful, fat toad. It's no surprise that people only like what he writes when the chips are down.

Since the chips are down, I agree with him here and appreciate his vitriol.

If an idiot like Mariotti can figure it the problem, how come the people running the franchise can't seem to understand what is happening here?

Because admitting what is wrong with this team is for them to admit they personally fouled up horribly, and endanger their own jobs.

It's easy for people who have no personal responsibility to see what's wrong and say something about it. But if Mariotti, for example, was RESPONSIBLE for it, he might be trying to placate fans AND his bosses in order to protect his own job.

This is all so accurate. And so funny. I just laugh anymore at these guys, otherwise I'd cry. I'm waiting for Dusty's "maybe a day off will do us some good" comment.

Mariotti is on point once again. All the fans know what needs to be done. How dumb is this organization that they can't make the right moves when you can tell these players are DONE. Baker is done! You smell defeat on these guys. Moves need to be made!!

baker has them looking for every excuse. no luck, injuries, billy goats...

not dealing off prior for tejada looks like hendry's biggest error...
