Nothing good can come of Tony Womack.

I don't see how Womack can possibly be any worse than Neifi/Hairston. Do I like the fact that we're at the point where we're about to call up Tony freakin Womack? No, of course not. But given the circumstances, I don't mind giving him a shot.

I'm not saying he'd be any worse. My fear is that he will be better. Let's just say he hits somewhere around his career numbers of .273/.316/.356. Now we all know those numbers are pretty meager. But the Cubs will look at that .273 batting average and think they've found themselves a player. There'd be a real possibility of the Cubs going into next year thinking they've "solved" second base.

Even if he is better than Neifi/Hairston, Womack doesn't help them that much in the short run and can only hurt them in the long run.

And then he'll get the 2 year $5m contract that Hendry offers standard to any pile of rubbish with quick feet and no bat.

You guys act as though it still matters.

I see 3 possible scenarios with the Womack callup in order of likelihood from least likely to most likely:

1 he comes up and does well. We don't have to watch the Cubs lose all the time. Baker gets the extension that he is going to get anyway.

2 He's so bad that even more people will start calling for Hendry and Baker's heads

3 he does about the same as Hairston etal and the Cubs continue to flounder.

There's a rumor that the Cubs are closely monitoring the rehab progress of Cristian Guzman in Washington, so they can finally achieve their dream of having the 5 worst hitters in baseball on the same team at the same time. Unfortunately, Rey Ordonez, Lenny Harris and Enrique Wilson couldn't be convinced to come back to make it an even bigger party.

The most disturbing part of the article for me:

They said he wants to play good enough down there to force us, force me to call him up. And that's fine with me."

It sounds as if Baker has a lot of say in roster decisions.

It disturbs me too.

But the really disturbing part is that this is making news. Womack IS Neifi Perez.

This just the shot in the arm this team needs. More washed up veterans.

It just occurred to me that there is a silver lining to a Womack callup. If they send down Theriot when they call up Womack they will then have to demote Bynum during Barret's suspension. They will also have to drop someone from the 40 man roster. In short, there will never be a better time to DFA Bynum.

This doesn't bother me. I've given up on this General (mis)Manager's decision making process.

Still, the ONLY hope is that Womack catches fire as he did in St. Louis a couple years ago, and moves Pierre to 8th.

There's no hope that anyone in our system is going to come up and start making this team WIN, unless they can pitch every day, and hit .800 with an .800 slugging percentage.

I'm not saying any of these guys are future all-stars but wouldn't the Cubs (an offensively challenged team) been better of picking Erubial Durazo or Richard Hidalgo off the scrap heap than another fast-running, no-hit second baseman.

ESPN said a few days ago that Durazo signed a minor league deal with the Yanks, and won't be playing for a while anyway (other than DH) because he still can't throw due to his injury.

I'm surprised that it looks like they brought him to Chicago early with him not playing last night.

Don't want him to lose his stroke...

Nah. We'll send Murton down. He's got options and he's struggling.

actually another thing that really bothers me about Womack is he played a lot of LF last year with the Yankees. Could we possibly have a lineup that has Pierre CF, Perez ss, Hairston 2b, Womack LF and Blanco C
