Well I'm really sick that we have ALOT of money, I think we have the 3rd or 4th most money in baseball??, and we do not spend any of it.. look at our team for god sakes..We have enough money to afford anyone out there.. The Tribune dosent care as long as the lineup looks decent and we average 39,000 people even when we suck...We will NEVER win a world series with them owning the team.. Thats why I think we should bring Cuban in..He would do alot.. look how he brought the mavericks to the team they are now.. He's not going to spend as much money as the Yankees obviously.. but more like the Red Sox... I think he would be great for the team and the city... Get rid of dusty, andy, hendry and everyone else...Its time for a change... I signed the petition to bring Cuban in.. Everyone else sign it and see what happens..

I like all the Cuban for owner threads, and all the trade suggestions for 34+ year old retreads as a way to solve the Cub's ills.

Thank you for your brilliant insight!

Someone help me understand this love for Mark Cuban. I mean it's not like he's the only owner out there. Where are the screams for Bob Kraft? Dr. Jerry Buss?

Cuban bought the Mavericks when they were the laughing stock of the NBA (pushing 70 losses if I remember correctly) and turned them into a perennial contender. He's by no means perfect, however. His most egregious decision, of course, was when he let Steve Nash go in order to spend the full boat on Eric Dampier. Still, there are few sports franchise owners with as much passion for winning as Cuban.

Cuban is from Indiana and graduated from IU. I think his midwest background might be one reason for the interest in him.

Besides, just look at the first three letters of his last name. It's a natural.

I think the love stems from the fact that he is very much fan oriented. He is extremely visible and makes it a point to appease the fans in as much as an owner of a sports team (i.e. business) can.

I know that he went to IU, but I thought he was from Pittsburgh. I could be wrong here though.

Maybe he was. I'm not sure about him actually being from Indiana; I may have been wrong about that part.

So what? Jay Mariotti is from Pittsburgh and he went to Ohio University

So, if I'm understanding correctly, the love for Cuban mainly comes from the fact that he sits in the first row, comes on the court to make a spectacle of himself and occasionally gets fined for berating officials and the league? I don't get it. I'd rather have Kraft or Buss. At least they can say they've won championships. Dallas may win one this year but, again, for all of his grandstanding that would be his first. And in sports history there have been other owners who took laughinstocks and turned them into winners beside Cuban. Tampa Bay Bucs were a laughingstock, so were the Cleveland Cavs, Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Braves and Detroit Tigers. Just give me an owner who knows how to hire the right guys to run a baseball organization and who make intelligent decisions and I'll be happy.

Well, one difference is that Cuban has expressed interest in owning a baseball team. I'm sure if Buss or Kraft expressed interest then a lot of Cub fans would clamor for them.

Cuban completely turned around the Mavs organization and has made them into a perennial playoff team. Give him some time before you criticize him for not winning championships because he's only been in control of the organization for a few years.

Some of my colleagues attended an advanced Excel workshop sponsored by Microsoft in Dallas yesterday. The star of the show was a guy from the Mavericks organization talking about how he uses Excel to statistically analyze everything about the game, and that the Mavericks organization is obsessed with the use of statistical analysis. We wouldn't want that kind of influence in the world of Cubdom.

I think Cuban's public persona is a deliberate marketing ploy - not to mention the strategic advantage if your competition thinks you're an idiot.

His public persona is no ploy. He is an extremely bright and successful individual who happens to be a huge fan. I think he sometimes acts like an idiot because he actually gets that involved in what's going on with the team.
