Was listening to SoCal radio today and Lee Hamilton said that there are reports that 10 teams have contacted Florida about Willis. Florida wants a truckload of prospects. Hamilton said the Dodgers are in the running, as they have a great minor league system.

Anyone think Marshall, Pie and a filler or 2 could get this done?

Marshall and Pie would be absolutely dwarfed by any offer the Dodgers could put together.

I don't buy that.

The Dodgers don't have any young starting pitchers up and doing well. Their last phenom/can't miss was Edwin Jackson. How's he doing? If they had a bunch of studs, then Tomko & Sele wouldn't be starting. Marshall's actually doing quite well on the major league level.

Ummm Billingsley, though I don't think they'll part with him.

whether you buy it or not doesn't matter. billingsley, guzman, laroche, martin, etc puts any cub offer to shame.

if i'm giving up the farm for an impact player, it's gonna be a bat. this offense is horrible.

Let's go down the Dodgers' list this season...

On their active roster:

RP Jonathon Broxton (8 IP, 1.13 ERA, 11/3 K/BB, 6 H, and 1 HR)

C Russell Martin (.295/.404/.455 in 44 ABs, 5/8 K/BB, and 1 HR)

LF Andre Ethier (.311/.360/.489 in 45 ABs, 9/4 K/BB, 2 HRs)

In the minors:

RHP Chad Billingsley (41.2 IP, 3.24 ERA, 52/17 K/BB, 32 H, and 3 HR at AAA)

3B Andy LaRoche (.271/.382/.413 in 155 ABs, 23/28 K/BB, and 5 HRs at AA)

OF Joel Guzman (.301/.353/.464 in 153 ABs, 34/11 K/BB, and 6 HRs at AAA)

RHP Scott Elbert (41 IP, 2.41 ERA, 40/22 K/BB, 29 H, and 2 HRs at High A)

3B Blake DeWitt (.299/.358/.408 in 157 ABs, 25/15 K/BB, and 2 HRs at High A)

OF Matt Kemp (.343/.423/.558 in 172 ABs, 30/19 K/BB, and 6 HRs at AA)

2B Tony Abreu (.266/.340/.376 in 173 ABs, 31/16 K/BB, and 2 HRs at AA)

SS Chin-Lung Hu (.265/.357/.321 in 162 ABs, 23/23 K/BB, and 0 HRs at AA)

There are more beyond these guys, naturally.

If the Dodgers want to make a trade, they have more ammo than anyone save for possibly the Diamondbacks and Angels.

The Dodgers list of hitters is quite impressive, but since Florida will be giving up Willis won't they be asking for starting pitching back?? Their starters absolutely suck. LA looks a little slim in this department. Billingsly has nice AAA numbers, but so did E. Jackson and Rich Hill. Marshall has shown he can get major league hitters out.

Billingsley is arguably the best pitching prospect still in the minors right now, definitely top 5 IIRC. You can't argue the past with this kidn of thing, because then there's no need to trade prospects at all. "I don't want Guzman, because we had a hitter fail one time. Yeah. Sorry."

Don't the Marlins have a massive surplus of pitching prospects as it is?

Maybe they want depth or something, but if they want to stock up their system, getting some nice position players would be worthwhile.

i am still not convinced on the Dtrain.

and i am not willing to pay to see him in Cubbie Blue. We have a lot of needs right now, but i can assure you that starting pitching is well down the list.

we need some pop at 3b and LF/RF to help pull out of this.

We keep Pie to leadoff next year. He wont be a repeat of CPatt, so you wont see him before Sept 1.

Isn't Pie's biggest problem plate discipline? I don't think he'll be a good fit in the leadoff spot, especially in his first year when he'll likely be overmatched.

i say give him a shot. if he cant hang, then Cedeno will have to leadoff and Pie will need to bat 2nd.

No one in the entire Cubs organization has this thing called plate discipline.

Actually, looking at that list, I'd be happy if the Cubs shipped some of their guys off to the Dodgers in exchange for some of those prospects. Martin, Kemp, and LaRoche would be quite nice, imo.

A man can dream. :(

Pie's been doing decently down in AAA...but I hope to all that is holy the Cubs keep him away from the top of the lineup. That 31/12 K/BB would NOT look good at the top of the order.

Rusch, Hill, Guzman & JWilliams have started 15 games and won 1 game.

12 BBs? That would be tied for 4th on the Big Squad right now- behind TWalk, Murton, and ARam.

#1 the effectiveness of a starter has little to do with a win-loss record.

#2 we have Z, Prior, Marshall, and Miller definitely locked up for next season. Probably need 1 more guy to step forward. Williams will be good, he just needs to work on a couple of things. Ryu is a possibility, but may be better suited for relief. Guzman might still yet figure things out.

#3 there is a really deep pool for catchers and starters this offseason. I think the Cubs could do OK in it. Dont need to ransom the future for the Dtrain.

#4- Rusch should never have been extended. He had one good year for his entire career and Hendry over reacted. Last year and this year are more his normal style. Expecting anything else was silly.

Miller was a one year deal without options.

Marshall has shown he can get major league hitters out.

four times.

billingsley's the better prospect.

Why because he can throw the ball harder then Marshall? Well...so can Angel Guzman. And I DO consider Angel is the same class with Billingsley. So, yeah...Billingsley is the better "prospect", but the Cubs IMO, have the better PITCHER.

Your argument is that Marshall is a better pitcher than Billingsley? I don't think you'll find any baseball expert or analyst that would agree with you.

I would much rather have Cabrera than DTrain. This offense needs some pop. Actually A LOT of pop.

Exactly. If we're going to trade the farm and Marshall for a player, it better be Cabrera. This team is dying for another power hitter. Getting DTrain is pointless if we can't score runs.
