I checked with the Jaxx to find out what other moves were made with Micah going to AAA. Here are the moves:

Micah Hoffpauir and Luis Montanez to AAA Iowa

Brandon Sing and Adam Greenberg to AA West Tennessee

Interesting.

Is Luis going to play in Iowa? Greenberg barely even saw the field there.

If he keeps hitting the way he has, they'll find room. It's not as though the team is overloaded with talent. Not to mention 2-17 will surely get you some pine time.

Sad to see Greenie and Sing struggling. Hope they can both make the turnaround soon!

Iowa will find room to play Monty and Hoffpauir. Both were doing an excellent job down in AA and hopefully will carry over that success into AAA.

Heck, maybe the Cubs' investment in Montanez will pay off if he gets called up to the majors in the near future. ;)

If Montanez continues to produce well in his first few weeks @ AAA, I'd like to quickly see him promoted again along with a Bynum DFA. Luis might make a nice platoon partner for JJ.... (if the Cubs can ever get over themselves and recognize the obvious need to platoon JJ)

You'd think a line of .053/.100/.053 AVG/OBP/SLG against lefties would catch their attention.

Montanez's numbers against lefties are pretty good, too:

.389/.488/.417/.905

He has more power, but less patience, against RHPs, though.

I think it was clear in the off season that a platoon in RF with Jones was the best way to go. I think if Pagan hadn't gotten hurt, we would have seen him a lot more in right. Baker and Hendry haven't done a very good job there.

Whereas it is likely, perhaps, that Montanez would put up better numbers than Jones will against lefties this season, we should remember two important facts concerning the stats that have been mentioned here. Jones's numbers against lefties this season are from a very small sample size and likely will be much better than that by the end of the season and Monty's numbers are against minor league pitching. I would be surprised if Montanez wound up platooning with Jones in right at some point this season. Next year, maybe...maybe. He just lacks the power numbers that other OFers either in the organization (Pagan, Sing, Pie, etc.) or outside the org. that are aquireable can provide.

If Murton can find his HR stroke and Pie can raise his SLG%, then it is possible that the Cubs get rid of Pierre and Monty could hit lead-off and play RF next season, but I just don't see that happening.

The Cubs clearly don't understand the concept of BABIP. Luis is having a great year, but it is mainly been driven through a high BABIP. Striking out nearly 20% of the time, his batting average will not hold up over the long term. I'm just happy his patience at the plate is as good as it has ever been.

yay for Micah!

couldnt believe they started him in AA again this year.

I can understand why the Cubs sent down Adam. He will be the better player of the 2, but he needs ABs to continue to develop. He wasnt getting those at Iowa, so it was wise to send him back to play every day.

I don't follow the minors every day, but I thought Sing had started to rebound nicely from his slow start when they sent him down?

iowacubs.com has him at .177/.307 and Deardorff at .213/.300. They could definitely use the help until Dope gets back. But Micah can play the OF as well, LF especially.

I am so excited for Micah.

What was Sing's BABIP? In any case, his walk rate was fine even though his power numbers were not great and he wasn't hitting for avg.

As of Monday, .220. It was .267 against lefties and .205 against righties, even though his BA against each were nearly identical.

Cubs.com[/url]"]The Cubs claimed center fielder Miguel Negron off waivers from Toronto. He was assigned to the Double-A West Tenn team. Negron was batting .266 with two homers and 12 RBIs in 33 games.

He'll be 24 in August and batted .258/.304/.387 last year at AA.

How fast? Versatility?

Not sure if he can play second, but yes, he does like to run.

Of course, he only has a 69% success rate in his career and 66% last year. But we all know that SB % doesn't matter.
