Can Baker Possibly be Extended?

I'm interested to see if the hostile environment is something that would keep Dusty from even accepting an extension. I can just picture some crazy Cub fan assinating him at the press conference. (joke)

 

I'm having fun trying to think of definitions for assinate.

For the first time all season, Steve Stone has backed off his statement that it's only a matter of time before Dusty gets the extension. Today on the Score, Stone said that he truly believed that earlier this season, but nobody could have predicted this complete collapse and now he believes Dusty's fate is undecided. For the first time this year, he was somewhat critical of Baker. It seems that the numbers of people who still believe Dusty will be extended are dwindling...

Ryan, I quit going 4 years ago. I really don't miss it like I thought I would. I guess the whole "Wrigley" mystique has worn off. I also quit buying the Tribune and cancelled my Chicago magazine when I found out the Trib published it.

 

The question is, would you be preventing yourself from enjoying Cubs baseball or from enjoying Wrigley Field?

I still think Dusty will be extended. When the injured stars come back the Cubs will return to being a so-so MLB baseball team. They'll be good enough to squeeze out a couple of hot streaks and that's when Dusty signs.

I know you are being sarcastic but I have seen and heard this excuse so many times I have to comment.

 

The fact that they game Hendry an extension is not an excuse to give one to Baker. All the writers who keep saying you have to give Baker one since Hendry has one are completely insane. This isn't preschool where if one kids brings candy to class he has to share with everybody. You don't justify a stupid extension by saying somebody else got a stupid extension.

But if the Cubs think highly enough of Perez/Hendry/Rusch's performance to give them extensions of more than one year, I find it hard to think they'll not do the same for Dusty- whose level of suckness is at least on par with theirs.
