jones just catches all kinds of hellll. yet his numbers are right there with the $12-15 million man, Brian Giles.

jones 6 hrs & .783 ops

giles 2 hrs. and .766 ops

the cubs didn't need to spend a bunch of money for another guy who rarely gets extra base hits. the teams loaded w/ those guys.

Jones : .311 OBP 5 Walks

Giles : .401 OBP 28 Walks

Slugging?

Slugging > Walk

If the OPS's are similar, the guy with the OBP that is 90 points higher is more valuable. OPS correlates lmore closely to runs when OBP is multiplied by 1.5.

i can't see how that generalization is possible when you combine those walks with a bunch of singles hitters.

now put the walks on a team w/ manny, ortiz, nixon and varitek or arod, giambi, matsui, sheffield, and posada and maybe so.

Not making outs = scoring runs.

we won't get him but soriano might hit more homers than our 3 starting outfielders combined....especially if he was at wrigley. having soriano as 2b would certainly help an outfield that might not hit 50hr...heck if murton keeps going at this pace they may not hit 40...25(jones) 10 (murton) and 2-3(pierre)

While the Cubs are 15th in SLG, they're also dead last in OBP. Is increasing OBP in front of a lack of power a worse of an idea than increasing SLG with behind a bunch of guys who aren't getting on base?

27th in obp, 28th in home runs, 29th in slugging and 30th in doubles...

give me power and sure runs.

Except we're not in the American League, haven't played any Aermican League teams and total stats for Major League Baseball are irrelevant since we're in the National League, compete against teams in the National League, and one day will hopefully win the National League Pennant.

So, with that said, the Cubs are:

16th in Runs

16th in Hits

15th in Home runs

16th in OBP

15th in SLG

16th in OPS

16th in BB's

The Cubs are the worst offensive team in the National League. The team OBP is .306. That's positively Neifi-esque.

What's sad about this is that the most surprising part about that list is that we're actually beating someone in home runs and slugging.

San Diego. The team that just swept us. But I would guess that we're the fastest team in the national league, so the offense will turn around soon.

What's sad is Gene Clines and Gary Matthews still have jobs in Chicago.
