I'd have to assume Gallagher's night is done. If so, he recovered well from a tough start and pitched well despite not having his best stuff and control.

It sounded like he was using his changeup more frequently tonight and got at least one K with it. The three doubles are the most XBH he's allowed in a game so far this season. His BAA is up to .276, 42 hits allowed, 35 singles / 6 doubles / 1HR.

ERA 1.96 / WHIP 1.23 / FO-GO 17-51 / K-BB 43-9.

tough way to end it :(

:(

The good relay throw in the 9th was Weston - Simokaitis - Rick (I thought it was Fuld).

Wizards Deep-Six Chiefs Win Streak

Blackford allows six runs in 6th inning in loss

Ft. Wayne, IN – With one bad inning the Peoria Chiefs saw their five game win streak come to an end 6-0 at the hands of the Fort Wayne Wizards Tuesday night. With the loss the Chiefs are now 1-1 on the roadtrip and 18-14 on the season and still in first place in the Western Division.

Neither team could push home a run in the first five innings. Chiefs starter Tood Blackford, an Indiana native, allowed a lead off 6th inning single to Will Venable. After a passed ball and a wild pitch, Daryl Jones singled home Venable for the game’s first run. Blackford got a strikeout but then issued a walk before Nick Hundley doubled home two and advanced to third on the throw home. Hundley came home on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead and Blackford then hit Chad Steiner with a pitch. Newcomer Jesus Lopez capped the inning and ended Blackford’s night with a two-run homer to left for a Fort Wayne 6-0 lead.

Peoria threatened in the 1st, 2nd and 5th innings but left runners in scoring position each time. The Chiefs left 10 runners on base overall and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. A leadoff double was left on base in the 5th inning and in the 8th the Chiefs had first and third with no outs and couldn’t capitalize.

Blackford (2-1), from nearby Tippecanoe, allowed six runs over 5 1/3 innings while walking three and striking out three. Matt Avery pitched the final 2 2/3 innings without allowing a run. Wizards starter Joel Santo (2-2) picked up the win with six shutout innings in which he allowed four hits and three walks.

Pepsi Player of the Game

Matt Ciaramella (RF)– The Chiefs No. 9 hitter was the only baserunner to reach base three times. He walked twice and singled and is now 4-for-6 in the first two games of the series.

Notes…RF Jesus Valdez picked up a hit in his 10th straight road game…Blackford joined Donnie Veal as the only Chiefs pitchers to allow four homers…LH Jesus Yepez (1-1) faces RH Steve Delabar (0-2) Wednesday night at 5:00 PM Central Time…The broadcast begins with the pre-game show on http://www.peoriachiefs.com at 4:45 PM.

Felix's BA is back down to .275 after a 1-5 day. His OPS is below .750.

They go to the 11th in Iowa.

Nic Jackson stays HOT. He was on base 4 out of 5 times with a hit or walk. He had a double and added a stolen base. I'm really starting to wonder whether he could help out the Cubs fugile outfield this year. I'll trade ya Pierre and JJones for Pie and Jackson. Anyone? Anyone?

Jake Fox is flying up the prospect chart! At some point, he really should switch with Reyes in West Tenn. Reyes isn't a good enough prospect with his bat to block Fox.

Carlos Vasquez seems to be back healthy and pitching well. He has a very good sinker if I recall correctly, good enough to put him on the 40 man before he was injurred. I wonder if at some point this year he'll move back into a rotation spot.

Montanez is following up his good year last year and continues to hit this year. He's got to work on his power though if he's going to be successful in the outfield. Did they ever try him at 2nd? I know that SS didn't work out, but why couldn't 2nd base have worked out?

Shaver and Ryu are quietly having good years so far. Both good trade bait?

He also made a great catch while running into the wall.

The best catch of the night goes to Montanez, however.
