JJ not hitting lefties disappoints me, but doesn't surprise me.

What is more worrying and surprising is Ronny Cedeno's performance versus left handers.

.121/.171/.121

OUCH.

Especially when you look at his RH stats:

.423/.444/.673

Wow - I didn't realize....

Who do you guys think would be a suitable platoon partner for Jones? Restovich? Do we trade for one?

Murton. Suck it up and get Abreu.

Dustys explanation for letting him face lefties is herehttp://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060425&content_id=1417994&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc

While i've said before that he shouldn't face lefties,Restovich is definately not an option. As much as I hate to say it,Hairston in right and Neifi at 2nd is the best option now.

15 at-bats is a little too soon to dismiss him not getting to career norms. restovich isn't a superior option either.

Restovich not being a superior option has nothing to do with Jacque Jones stinking it up to date.

At 31 and in a new league (which typically is a disadvantage for a hitter), he's not likely to perform to career norms anyway. Last 3 years average of hitting against lefties for Jones is .238 .295 .363 .658. This is not counting 2006.

League BA OBP SLG OPS for Wrigley last year: 270 .340 .430 .770.

Jone's value while facing lefties would be below replacement player value.

I understand why your front office wont platoon him. Its the same thing we have with Encarnacion. His OPS the last three years averaged is 754. The league average for Busch last year was 773 and before that 769. He's basically a below average player, and being a corner OFer makes it worse. We both have some pretty lame options in the outfield that wont be benched or platooned because of politics.

If I were a below average Major League player, such as Jones, I'd want to play for Dusty witness:

Manager Dusty Baker said Jones should've read the ball better, but added: "The balls stay up in the air longer with this light air. That was a big play too. That was one of them. When you're not scoring runs, you're trying to score any way you can. And most of the time you end up running into outs."

This was the response of Jones being doubled up for second time in three games, he can do no wrong with Dusty in his corner.

Jones's BA has gone like this since 2003

2003 .304

2004 .254

2005 .249

2006 .239 (so far)

sure his power numbers stayed the same but its not like he was hitting 45 home runs and has 100+ RBI's

i wonder what his excuse was on monday at wrigley, When it comes down to it the main problem is Dusty. Its easy to be a leader when the times are good (2003) not so much when the times are bad (every year since). He hasant kept these players motivated, we should be able to score runs but thats not Dustys way. hell look at the white soxs last year, very very little power and sub .300 avg for most if not all players yet they have a nice ring on their hand. it dosent help any that more and more everyday im thinking Rothschild is a moron and is nowhere near the caliber pitching coach that a team with names like Prior, Zambrano, Guzman, Hill, need

Did he really say this:

"You know what? If you're not aggressive, then they say you should be,'' Jones said Thursday. "Damned if you do, damned if you don't. When things aren't going well, you always try to make something happen.''

"That's how I was taught to play the game,'' Jones said. "You play it on instinct. You don't want to be silly, but you want to play with controlled aggression. You play the game with what you feel.''

Jacque, get your head out of your striped bass. This is another part of the "be aggressive" mantra that I hate about the Cubs. Not only are they overly aggressive at the plate, they are stupid on the basepaths. It's not aggressive to run on a fly out to LF, it's stupid. Quit doing it you moron, it only hurts the team. Everybody's default is to like the "aggressive" way because it's more manly and macho than playing it smart. But it's not the right way. In little league and high school our coaches all taught us that if we make a mistake, we better make an aggressive mistake. That's fine at the lower levels, when the competition is often clueless and incapable of making the play that would take advantage of over aggressive play.

What Jones did was what many call a rookie mistake. Cubs veterans have been prone to several rookie mistakes in recent years, but only the rookies get called out for making those mistakes. The veterans, for some reason, are allowed to make the same mistake over and over with no repercussions, no reprimand, no benching. This style of baserunning does not help the Cubs, it hurts them. Jones might not want to apologize for his huge mistakes, but he better correct them.
