I got this email about a half hour ago from a friend....

Was listening to Murph earlier on the Score talking about a Carlos Zambrano/Matt Murton incident? Would you care to explain?

Anybody know anything?

During the 5th yesterday when Murt went back and sort of misplayed that double, Z flipped his glove in Murt's direction and looked like he said something. They showed Murton's face and he looked upset, but was keeping his mouth shut. Minutes later, Z totally completed his meltdown and Murt was pulled in the double switch.

That is all I saw

They were also seen later sitting next to each other in the dugout carrying on a civilized conversation.

Yes that too; I saw that but was only commenting on the possible problem, not the make up afterwards, if there was either.

Of course, the original post also said it was Murph who brought it up. It could be just that one of them likes Cool Ranch and the other likes Spicy Nacho.

It was the second time Z had reacted strongly after a Murton error. Personally, I don't care - he is clearly mad that the error took place, not actually mad at Murton. Everyone makes errors, specially at Wrigley in the wind, near the bricks. Hopefully they have comes to turn with this in their later conversing.

not sure if this was about the ball Jenkins hit, but my brother and I had a discussion about playing balls hit at the curve of the well when that play happened. I personally have never seen anyone master playing balls around the well. my brother said Billy Williams did, which was before my time. so my retort to my brother was "give Murton 10-12 years playing left in Wrigley, and maybe he will master it too."

in other words, I don't blame Murton on that ball whatsoever. nor do I blame Z. I know I was frustrated because three guys in a row hit pretty damn good pitches really hard, and there's nothing you can do about that. hopefully that's where Z's frustration was coming from too, not Murton.

I always wonder what would have been Z's reaction if he had been pitching when Brant Brown dropped that ball against Milwaukee.

He would have trotted out to left and ripped his heart out of his chest with his bare hand.

Well done. I was stuck on trying to make a Temple of Doom joke somehow.

I just putting this out there as I didn't see the game yesterday.

If (and I'm not saying it is so) Z has not shown maturity and seems to be less effective and at the same time not progressing as a teammate, does anyone think the Cubs would contemplate a blockbutster trade?

Carlos is safe as long as Prior and Wood spend half of their careers on the DL.

I noticed the little glove flip too. I don't know if we're reading too much into it, but if he really did intend it toward Murton then that really is uncalled for. Fiery temper or not, that's just being an ass. Not to mention, Murton's play wasn't an error.

I could care less about his behavior on the field as long as he pitches well and wins games.

How do you explain Z's glove flip at Murton?
