The Associated Press is reporting that the Red Sox have trade Josh Bard to the San Diego Padres for Mirabelli. The reason? Bard can't catch Tim Wakefield's knuckleball. He has 10 passed balls in Wakefield's four starts.

Why in the world would Towers do this? Is Theo Epstien his little brother or something? I had no idea why the Padres pulled the trigger on Mirabelli/Loretta in the first place, since you'd assume there could have been a better deal out there somewhere if they felt they HAD to move Loretta to make room for Barfield. Now they just clean up Boston's mess for them by flipping him back to Boston for a replacement level guy like Bard? Someone needs to check into this relationship. I know Theo used to work for Boston, but come on! I previously thought Towers was pretty gifted. There must be more to the story.

There is more to the story. The Padres are cheap. Not only did they trade off Loretta (who was fairly cheap considering his production), but they also let Ramon Hernandez go, nearly allowed Trevor Hoffman to leave, nearly allowed Giles to leave, but also dumped Brian Lawrence's contract and Mark Eaton was due to earn an increase via arbitration and they traded him. They traded Nevin last year and would have been happy to move Klesko as well if someone would take him.

 

There is no excuse for how they are currently doing business, and it will catch up with them soon. Look at their attendance. Look at their ticket prices. Instead of rewarding the fanbase, they've kicked them in the crotch. I am absolutely shocked this organization isn't getting boycotted at this point. I'm shocked Trevor and Brian Giles came back. The writing was on the wall. I think I originally pegged San Diego in front of Colorado, but no one else. Right now, they are one of the worst teams in baseball.

Haha. Mirabelli arrived at Logan Airport at 6:49 pm tonight and is ready to start the game 20 minutes later. Had to dress in the car on the way to the ballpark from the airport. :D
