The last seven games have seen him go with only 2 hits, 7 Ks and 2 BBs.

In the seven games before that he had 10 hits, 4 Ks, and 2 BBs.

I realize it's a small sample size, but that's a pretty dramatic swing. And mind you, Clines and Sarges advice was given a couple of days ago, not seven games ago.

Just hoping that Murton can recapture that swing... :?

Murton will be back for sure, unless Dusty gets antsy and starts to platoon him with Bynum, god forbid.

Murton is my President.

Oh no way!! Bynum's hitting game...., not so much hitting.

Murt's going to be ok. He's still taking walks and getting on base, which is what I loved about him to begin with. Patience and a good batter's eye don't slump even when the hitting does, and Matt's going to be right back to poking "crap singles" as they've come to be known before too long.

Dusty needs to bat Aramis 3rd and Murton either 4th or 5th w/ Lee out. It's time to put into full-time duty. Enough is enough.

That's what the order should be everyday until Lee comes back (give or take resting a few guys every so often). Murton's struggling let him hit in the 6th spot for now.

I agree. I think Murton should be batting behind Barrett in the order. I'm okay with Murton at 6. I could see putting Jones 6th and Murton 7th so we have a R L R with Barrett, Jones, and Murton.

I like the lineup with Cedeno hitting 2nd. Too bad Ronny lost his ROY eligibility, Baker had him ride the pine too much last year...

Didn't the fact that he broke his hand the last month, or so, while still in the ML affect it? I think, at one point he was playing consistently then he got injured and sat. They weren't going to demote him, at that point, but if they had he may have been able to save enough days for eligibility.

Didn't you hear Harold Reynolds last night? Cedeno is a ROY candidate.

Ah, ESPN. Always good for a laugh.

I posted this in the game thread but I am reposting it here:

By the end of the year Murton will have the highest batting average on the team and will lead the team in walks and OBP.

The kid has a great approach at the plate.

Two walks tonight and in a critical situation he didn't panic and try to hit a bomb. He looked for something out and over the pate a sweet stroked it.

Jones HR was huge, but Murton's hit was huger ( :D ).

Great plate discpline, good opposite field stroke and still a sound ability to pull the ball. This isn't the type of guy you have to worry about. He's hit on every level and just has had a bad trip. And hey, look, he's probably starting to hit again.

Off the field, Dempster is my favorite Cub. On the field, it's Murton in a landslide. LANDSLIDE. IMO this is the best pure hitter to come up with the Cubs since Grace. I just love the way this kid does his job.

Yea I could have really seen Jones forcing it if Murton hadn't tied the game. There wasn't as much pressure, he just had to get a hit. Down 3-1 though Jones might have tried to be a superhero and failed.

At least something positive came out of the Nomar trade.

I do miss Nomar, though. :(

To be fair, he reeked of "throw in" to me when we traded for him. I remember the day we traded for Nomar. I heard of this Murton kid and wondered "Why would Theo give up a kid like this that's hit so well at every level?"

But, I think he'll be a cornerstone for years to come, and I couldn't be happier.

That won't matter to fans when he is an all star.

It doesn't matter to me, either.
