Peter Gammons was on ESPN 1000 this morning talking about a discussion he had with DLee during the Cardinals' series at Wrigley. For those that saw Sunday Night Baseball, you know part of the story...

I didn't hear it live this morning but apparently, Gammons said that he asked Derrek why he would sign so soon when the Yankees and Red Sox might be very willing to offer him several million dollars more than the Cubs. Lee replied; "I don't want to play anywhere else besides, how do you know that I won't break my wrist in two weeks?"

That's wierd.

Silvy and Carm talked about it and replayed the clip. Gammons said it but I don't know if DLee said that to him. Although, it would seem crass for him to make it up.

I wouldn't put it past him, he does it with trade rumors all the time.

I don't think he makes up trade rumors. I just think he's all to eager to report what front office types tell him, and they know he'll report it, which is why they tell him. It's like GM's telling reporters who they plan to take in the NFL draft. Misinformation.

Blame has officially shifted from Neifi to Gammons.

Seconded. This gets filed under simply unthinkable things that have happened to the Cubs right up with Durham, Gonzalez, Bartman, the black cat, Victor Diaz and everything else.

Don't forget Brant Brown!...and Gammons probably commented on that after it happened, so I'm blamming him for that too.

Brant isn't as big a deal considering the Cubs actually made the playoffs. Neifi Perez turned fate on its ear on that one, which is almost too bad because it would've been a classic Cubs collapse story.

Yeah, but for a few days there, I felt like I did after we lost to the Marlins.
