Miles said that he personally has a circle around Murton's name for the #3 spot, though that doesn't mean Dusty has the same thought. Murton works the count, is patient, doesn't seem to get stressed easily.

Response from Murphy (or is it Mulligan?): Matt the Bat, Murton for Certain!

Bruce is not for "messing with Walker too much." He feels that Todd should stay at 2B and Mabry (or Restovich) should play 1B.

He likes Murton batting in the 3 hole

His ideal lineup:

Pierre-CF

Walker-2B

Murton-LF

Ramirez-3B

Barrett-C

Jones-LF

Sub-1B

Cedeno-SS

Pitcher

Neifi in the late innings at 2B

He also thinks Hendry is looking for a trade but there isn't a realistic partner.

I disagree with the idea that Walker can't or shouldn't be moved to 2B but I have no problems with moving Murton to the 3 spot.

There was some talk about whether having Walker bat 2nd was a luxury that the Cubs might not be able to afford with Lee out. If Walker moves to 1B, Hairston might be the better #2 choice.

Miles noted that Neifi is best used as a defensive replacement and is not a #2 hitter.

Best-case scenario now is that Todd and Mabry are at second and first against righties, and hopefully that Todd plays first against lefties while Hairston and Neifi play second.

And I agree that Murt should bat third. If nothing else, this injury is a chance for him to get some well-deserved exposure.

Yeah I heard a Murph promo this morning with the same phrase...he must enjoy it.

Thanks. I forgot the order of their shows, but when he mentioned Pie, I figured it was him. :)

Murph isn't on normally until noon but he's subbing for Mulligan (during the Mulligan and Hanley show). So, that means 4 hours of Mike Murphy today. LOL, Im not sure that's a good thing.

Good deal. I don't mind the idea of Hairston on 2nd and Walker at 1st.

The bigger question though is, will Dusty do it? It seems to me, for whatever reason(s) that Neifi will be at 2nd more than Hairston.

There's no reason to believe this won't be the case. Dusty shows an obvious preference for Neifi, so it seems likely that he will start at 2B in any games Walker either doesn't play or starts at 1B.

[making mental note to come back to this thread in three weeks to see if everyone's "premonitions" come true or not...especially in light of so many similar "premonitions" that said Neife would be getting more PT than Cedeno at this point in the season.]

A lot of people saying Neifi would get more playing time is if Cedeno struggled, even for a short period of time. That has yet to happen, so obviously Cedeno is going to remain the starter while he's having success. Even Dusty isn't dumb enough to sit someone hitting as well as Ronny is right now.

If that is how things shake out then I have to ask why Hairston is even on the team.

That's just Bruce's opinion. Stone suggested that Walker play 1B and Haiston 2B. No doubt Dusty is contemplating all of these options as I type.

Erased for unnecessary comment.

I hate Dusty. he's an idiot and plays crappy players when he doesn't have to way too much. with that said, many said all winter that Neifi would get all the SS at the first sign of Cedeno struggles, then Cedeno struggled all spring. come openning day, Cedeno was the starting shortstop, so his point is well taken.
