i know he is retired and not as good as he once was but i would rather see him at first over restovich or even worse walker at first and neifi at second. we need to leave walk at 2nd and find a firstbaseman quickly.

We could sign Tino for the 2 weeks a year when he can actually hit the ball. :) Only problem is that we don't know when he will go on the two week hot streak. :?

The last thing Hendry needs to do now is to panic. Walker, Mabry, and Restovich can play for a few weeks and then Hendry can reassess whether a deal needs to be made.

Give the poster that gets it a cigar.

When he gets off the DL and learns to play first base, maybe the Cubs can do a blockbuster 4-team deal and get Nomar.....

This seems like a passive strategy though. Let them struggle and fall out of contention and then determine a deal doesn't have to be made (at least not with us being the buyer).

Better than a knee jerk trade for a garbage player that wont be any better than anyone we already have.

Best idea yet: Larry Walker.

I'd be shocked if Walker actually wants to come back. But if I'm JH, this is my 1st phone call.

LW has 81 career games at 1b (though none since '98). But the guy had an .886 OPS in 315 ABs last year even though his health was terrible.

Some greats have a very hard time leaving the game. Walker can still get it done if he's halfway healthy, and would obviously be a great 4th OF when Lee comes back.

That would be a nice idea, but he's old and he's got some injuries. It would still be a good idea, though

Baseball tonight mentioned Tony Clark, Shea Hillenbrand, Pena, and Kevin Millar as guys the Cubs should go after.

How about Julio Zuleta?

He is too busy beating up Japanese pitchers...literally. There is this video clip floating around where he charged the mound in Japan and the pitcher went into the fetal position and took his beating.
