Howry in to pitch (2nd), Hairston in at 2b (6th) for the CUBS

Bay flied out to the track in center field

Randa flied out to shallow right field

Burnitz flied out to right field

Not that Howry's been bad, but he probably should pitch 7th. Williamson's deserved the 8th spot.

 

You should use your best relievers in your most critical situations. Using Williamson as he was used today was well done by Baker, in my opinion.

Not a big deal Fred but you spelled Marshall's name wrong.

The question is, was it intentional? I don't think Dusty views Williamson as being ahead of Howry.

Good point. In general though, I stay with my idea.

 

of course there's no way to know for sure, but that critical situation probably doesn't come up if baker uses marshall correctly and not scared.

Yep. I think the "save" stat and the development of defined "roles" for relievers has caused many managers (Joe Torre, cough) to leave their best relievers in the bullpen when they're most needed.
