For Cards or Cubs fans....I know the the R, L, R breakup in the order is a luxury, but am I the only one who thinks having Edmonds in between Pujols and Rolen is just a dumb decision?

Edmonds, although still a good player, is clearly on the decline. If Pujols and Rolen hit 3-4, I think that combination could nearly rival Ortiz/Manny numbers. I think it's foolish, but I for one and happy to see it.

In today's game, you constantly see left-handers come in to get one big out and pull him for another guy out of the pen. Does Edmonds being in the 4 hole really do much other than breaking up the Cards best two hitters?

I'd hit either Edmonds or Rolen in the 2 hole, personally. That 2 hole is a black hole.

Edmonds still hits for good power (remember, if it weren't for the wind, he'd have hit that one off Maddux onto Waveland) and gets on base a lot due to his excellent strike zone judgement, but he's done being a great average hitter, I think.

Edmonds has such extreme hot and cold streaks you just have to stick with him and wait for him to heat up again.

Rolen and Edmonds also switch when facing lefties. We should see Rolen cleaning up tonight.

I like Rolen batting cleanup full-time, but I don't think TLR will put him there until his power #'s start creeping up again.

Edmonds is a better hitter than Rolen. The Rolen we saw in 2004 was not really what you should expect. Rolen is more of a .280/.370/.870 guy. Edmonds is along the lines of a .290/.380/.920 guy. Both are good, but Edmonds is better.

Though if I were Albert I would be disconcerted having Jim behind me in the lineup.
