So Mizzou is interviewing Mike Anderson, right? Would he appear to be their guy right now?

Seton Hall fired Louie Orr today and it sounds like Jamie Dixon could be leaving Pitt for Arizona State as people rumored.

Doesn't Dixon have a really low contract? I think he could get a better gig than the bottom of the scrap heap of the Pac 10.

He could be the bottom of the barrel in the Big 12 at Mizzou :D

PAC 10 isn't as deep of a conference so it would make the turnaround easier. Plus Arizona or Missouri??????

Mizzou people, how athletic are the players they are bringing back for next season and committed recruits for next year's squad?

Dixon was at the bottom of the conference in pay this year. They were going to bump that up, but not tremendously high from what was rumored. ASU is paying him $900K per year, plus I think he's originally a west coast guy and that was a big motivation for him leaving.

I see no reason why he can't go to Arizona State and have them competing consistently around the top half of the league. What does Arizona have that ASU doesn't? They didn't have much tradition until Lute arrived either. That could be a very good gig.

Actually Dixon leaving Pitt to take the ASU job is somewhat similar to Lute leaving Iowa for Arizona. Both were having great success at their current schools, were very well liked by fans and took jobs that looked to be a step down. Both also wanted to get back to the warm weather and thought that there would a little less pressure/fish bowl effect in Arizona.

The way I see it, Weber>>>Self in the big10. Weber, having worked in the Big 10 for 20 years, knows the conference inside and out. Self, amazing recruiter, good coach. The reason I hate Self isn't cause he left Illinois, it's cause he hired scumbags like Kurtis Townsend and (allegedly, and I have pretty good sources, believe me or don't, I don't care) paid Sherron Collins. Self was aided A LOT by his assistants, Norm Roberts (Current St. Johns head coach), and Billy Gillespie (Hottest coach in America).

Give me a break.

Kurtis Townsend has never been implicated in any wrongdoings. Ever. People pin the cal fiasco on him, and he wasn't even there for it. And forgive me if I don't believe your mysterious sources.

And for all of the people who say Self can't win the big game, they said that about Dean, Roy, Lute, Boeheim, and many more. I'll take Self over Weber any day.

As for Huggy...I think it was the right hire for KSU. Yeah, he has a somewhay tarnished image, but I imagine he's going to walk a fine line now in an effort to clean that up. And he IS a good coach. Perhaps not the greatest coach, as his offensive schemes are somewhat lacking, but I bet he has KSU in the top third of the Big XII within 3-4 years and challenging for the crown. In one if he gets Mayo.

He probably wasn't the right hire for Mizzou, though. With all the negatives swirling around the program, they have to being in someone clean and good. I still think Majerus would be a great short term fit. Get the program up and running, then in 5 years retire and leave Mizzou in a prime position to attract a younger, established coach.

I understand where you're coming from, but if a major heart attack isn't enough motivation to get him to clean up his life, what makes you think a new job will?

My guess is it will be the same program, with the same coach, as it was in Cincinatti. The only difference being he'll be entrenched in a sea of purple instead of red.

You out there TT?

Supposedly Mike Anderson was in to interview today and Mizzou could be announcing their hire tonight. A lot of people think Alford could still be in play after the search committee shakeup. I've also heard that Alden's job could be in trouble with the way this has all gone down.

Gotta disagree. The president and AD at KSU will never let that happen. Huggins will be a much cleaner coach at KSU. Just my opinion.

I posed the question earlier: does Mizzou have the athletes to run the 40 minutes of hell gimmick defense?

At present, probably not. I could see them making it work in the interim, even if they didn't press all the time. Grimes is a decently mobile big man, Brown, Lyons and Dandridge are all either quick, athletic, or can defend/rebound bigger than their size. The guardplay may or may not be good enough(worked against KU :P), but if Singletary and Lawrence stay as commits and/or if Miles comes our way we'd certainly have the depth at that spot.

EDIT: Actually, after describing the situation, I think I changed my mind. I think the frontline is very well suited for it, and if the guards have the tools(much tougher for me to gauge) then it could work right off the bat.

Hawkeye, I left for spring break today and have been in a car all day so I haven't heard anything. I will say that Anderson being brought in and Alden being fired would be a very good outcome for the situation.

Yeah, Dixon is from LA and very close friends with Howland still. I'm glad - this makes the Pac-10 stronger.

I really believe you have to credit much of Self's success to Roberts and Gillespie. Townsend serves no purpose but being a scumbag recruiter.

This article was impeached shortly after it was written, although I don't remember all the details. If memory serves, Townsend couldn't have even recruited Abdur-Rahim, as he wasn't a full-fledged assistant or something like that. In fact, I believe he wasn't responsible for any of Cal's recruiting. (I'm checking into this.)

There are no infractions regarding the recruitment of the Stewart twins, so I'm not sure why the author complains about them.

He talks about Giles "following" Townsend to KU, but ignores or plays down 3 facts.

1. KU recruited him before he committed to USC and Miami, so it wasn't like they came out of nowhere for his services.

2. Giles reneged on his committment to Miami because the head coach was fired. It's common for players to do that.

3. Both of Giles's parents played at KU. His family has history there. Not too surprising that KU was a possible destination. And he's hardly the type of player you hire an assistant coach to land, anyway.

Next, the author talks about Terrance Williams. Well, terrance Williams didn't go to KU. So his point there is pretty moot.

Finally. consider the source of the article. This guy is a sports radio personality. It's as if Mike North wrote an article. Not the best source.

As to your basic point--did Self benefit from the presence of Gillespie and Roberts? I'm sure he did, but it's not like he's crippled without them. Almost every expert in America was impressed by KU's growth this year. I was, too. I expect them to be better next year. Especially if Collins qualifies and we land Darrell Arthur.

Posted
I think Collins will qualify, his situation isn't half as bleak as Rush's was this time last year and he ended up qualifying. Well, good job on a nice season and congrats on getting J. Wright (that one really hurt, I loved watching that kid play in HS).

Collins can't pass the ACT so far. With Rush, it was a matter of whether he had the right classes, etc. His standardized test scores were fine. Collins is on track to meet his reqs, but he needs to find an ACT tutor. I think he's failed it 3 times now.

What is the ACT qualifiying score? 17 or 18? And does it take an average from the 3rd test on(as it is for a normal student) or whether just top score will do.

I don't know the answer to either of those questions. Is a qualifying score dependent on the institution?

Here is the latest rundown by PowerMizzou.com now that Dixon is apparently staying at Pitt:

I would agree that Alford and Anderson appear to be most likely now. I hope Alford stays but if not I would love Majerus. He's a little strange but reportedly he's getting his health back together and is serious about getting back into it.

It's kind of surprising how silent they've kept all of this.

I believe it does vary depending on the school, but I think D1-wide there is a minimum. 17 sounds familiar, but I'm not positive on that. Although it may be a sliding scale based on high school GPA. If my memory is correct, I would guess KU would have the minimum requirements, as I seem to remember that's what got Dockery into Duke, and I'd be surprised if KU had higher standards than Duke.

Did some quick searching around looks like a minimum GPA in 12 core courses(I couldn't find what the GPA was) and a 17 on the ACT. For the ACT, you can take it as many times as you want and combine your scores from the 4 different subjects to reach the average of 17.(i.e. A 21 in Science on your 1st test + 16 on Reading on your 3rd + 15 on English on your 1st + 17 on Math on your 5th test = qualifying)

No one on the east coast takes the ACT. They take the SAT. Just saying.

Collins would be taking the ACT in all likelihood. I preferred the SAT as well as it was more an aptitude test than what you've learned as I'm an incredibly lazy student.
