Bowden = idiot. He didn't want to move to the OF in NY or Texas. What made Bowden think he'd want to move once he's in Washington.

I doubt he thought Soriano would want to move to the OF but believed he would as he doesn't really have a choice. NY and TX never forced the issue.

Soriano to take LF

JUPITER, Fla. -- Alfonso Soriano has decided to play left field in the Nationals' Spring Training game Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals, a team spokesman said.

Soriano, who on Monday refused to take the field for a game against the Dodgers at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla., told MLB.com on Tuesday that he would think it over about playing and he would talk it over with his agent and wife. Apparently he had a change of heart after those discussions.

But him taking the field, if he will, is another story

Wow, the Nationals are really trying to spin this as Soriano's fault. What a bunch of jerks.

Supposedly he "refused to play LF" the other day and left LF open to start the game so a change had to be made. Now we find out that the roster for the starting 9 didn't even have Soriano's name on it. Soriano is the bad guy. It wouldn't even be a big deal if the Nationals coaches had taken the time to find out what happened before talking the media and casting Soriano as Mr. Selfish.

Soriano now says he thought he was not supposed to start the game, because when he looked at the lineup in the clubhouse, he was not part of the starting nine. He said he didn't know he was supposed to play against the Dodgers until Nick Johnson gave him a call during the game.

According to two baseball sources, bench coach Eddie Rodriguez wrote two lineups on Monday. The one without Soriano's name in the lineup was on the clubhouse bulletin board for most of the afternoon.

"With me, I'm thinking I'm out of the lineup," Soriano said. "Before they made the lineup, I told them if I'm not playing second base, I do not want to be in the lineup. Nick Johnson called me at that time and he told me that they had me in the lineup, but [nobody showed up]. Now I look like the bad guy."

Soriano was acquired from the Rangers on Dec. 7 for o

From what I read, he was scheduled to play LF and leadoff. He was on the grounds when his name was called but he wasn't in uniform. He also left the ballpark before the completion of the game.

Soriano, who appeared in uniform on the field only during afternoon pregame workouts, dressed and left the ballpark before the second inning. He turned down interview requests as he walked to his car, saying, "I don't want to comment, not today."

Soriano is already a much better fielder in left than he was at second...

Soriano jogged in a few steps to catch a routine fly ball by Albert Pujols, then threw to second base to double off David Eckstein.

"I never think I'm going to make a double play in the outfield," Soriano said. "But I did it."

Leftfield isn't easy for Soriano.

The Washington Nationals' reluctant new left fielder made three routine grabs Thursday during a 1-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, but two catchable balls fell in front of him. An experienced outfielder probably would have charged both and turned them into outs.

That's why you have Spring Training. LOL. On the other hand, I hope he isn't dogging it on purpose...
