Jerome Williams takes the hill at HoHoKam Park as the Cubs take on Jesse Foppert and the Seattle Mariners. The game starts at 1 PM Arizona time and is on MLB's audio package. It apparently is being broadcast by the KOMO out of Seattle.

After yesterday's debacle, hopefully Williams will have his good stuff.

Go Cubs!

According to the Mariners 3/13 Press Pass, the following pitchers are scheduled to appear:

Seattle: RH Jesse Foppert, LH Bobby Livingston, LH George Sherrill, LH Luis Gonzalez, RH Francisco Cruceta

CUBS: RH Jerome Williams, RH Ryan Dempster, RH Bobby Howry

After 10 games, the Mariners' team ERA of 9.72 (94 earned runs in 87 innings pitched) is last in the Majors ... Seattle has walked 54, while striking out 64 and allowed 131 hits.

Wow! Another Luis Gonzalez!

The Mariners' lineup isn't out yet, but the Cubs will go this way:

Ramirez, 3B

Jones, RF

Grissom, DH

Mabry, 1B

Murton, LF

Cedeno, SS

Kopitzke, C

Williams, P

Williams has looked a bit shaky (11 H in 5 IP with 1 BB and 0 K) so far. Let's hope it's just rust and he starts to come around today.

Is he usually rusty in ST? I can't remember. I think he was notoriously a slow starter in SF.

Thats probably close to Opening Day if you insert Lee and Barrett. The Cubs really hate Walker don't they? I cannot possibly see why they would add Graffanino - couldn't Theriot, Fontenot or Hairston equal his production?

Sweet. Now I'm less worried. Thanks.

Maybe we should let Williams pitch simulated games for the first third of the season as well.

I think its pretty common for pitchers to throw an overwhelming number of fastballs early in spring training - if the pitch isn't overwhelming, they may get hit hard early. another great reason to ignore ST stats.

Any truth to the Walker for Matos (Baltimore) rumor?

Say it ain't so, Mr. Miles!

Umm what rumor? Nothing on the transaction page....

It's going around the O's community right now (probably not true). I find it a little hard to believe after Walker said Hendry hadn't talked to him about a trade and JH is usually pretty open about that stuff (with the player anyways). I guess that could have changed with the recent miscommunication (or whatever it was) between walker and dusty/hendry.

But Matos? I hadn't realized Walker's value was so low, or that we needed another reserve OF with Hairston and Pagan looking good.

Let's get it going, Ronny!

Agreed...I like to see Ronny step it up and get a couple of hits today. In fact I predict Ronny gets 2 hits today. A single and a double.

Glad to hear that Jerome never has a big ST. Makes me feel better about his upcoming walks.

Conversely, Jones is always a very hot starter for ST and the season, so I would expect big things out of him today.

Not good to be a slow starter when you're competing for a job.
