Santana had the better season, but in the voting for Cy young Colon did. Colons statistics were worth more to the voters than Santanas in there eyes. I agree Santana had the better season.

Then why do you use Colon's Cy Young as a reason to rate him higher when you believe it's not the best way to determine how good a season a player had?

no I said Santana was the better pitcher, but It's a know fact if your teams doing well you get the edge. Santana had a better year than Colon, but with everything factored in he deserved the Cy young.

If you look at the two pitchers' stats, Colon is getting quite a bit more than an "edge" by having the better team.

Take a good look at those stat lines again. Santana made Colon look average.

I'm not opposed to the award, I am opposed to the reasons that pitchers win it. When you determine how good of a season a pitcher has, wins would not be close to the top of my list. Wins are a TEAM stat. It is based on how well the rest of the team plays as well as the individual. There is no reason that an award given to the best PLAYER should be based on how well the team does. There are plenty of other stats like ERA, WHIP, K/9, BB/9, ect that do a much better job of showing how well a pitcher performs. Those stats should be used when determining who wins the Cy Young.

Btw, first time I have had a thread split starting with my post. :)
