Your team looks like mine. Very good offensive infield, fewer sure things in the outfield. Good, deep SP. You have a top flight closer that I don't though. I'm terrible at judging based on the depth of the league, but you should be alright in my uneducated opinion.

For a 10 team league that's just okay. Your infield is pretty set, but your outfield/utility hitters could use a little upgrade. Your starting pitching is pretty good. You only have one closer so you probably won't be winning saves (its a 10 team league so each team should have 2 or 3 closers). Overall, it's decent, but nothing spectacular for a 10 team league. Definitely able to win with that team if you catch some breaks and make the right moves.

Has power become taboo in fantasy?

Not enough power once again.

Won't get much out of catcher, second base, and the Outfield is pretty shaky.

I do like the pitching, though. My suggestion would be to try and package Livan Hernandez; he is probably one of the most overrated pitchers in fantasy baseball UNLESS you're playing in an expanded roto league format where CG's is a category. Otherwise, he can be a real drain on your WHIP (last year, he was pretty awful across the board), with a bad K/BB ratio, awful WHIP, not all that many wins, doesn't K too many people in general.

He's really getting up there in age and has a LOT of innings logged in with him and is a likely candidate of mine to not really be all that good this season.

Two pros about Livan, however. That park is great to pitch in (if he can stop freaking walking people) And the aforementioned CG's (if that's a roto stat in your league).

Otherwise, I'd deal him in a heartbeat for someone who goes based on name alone.

Hmm...how does he not have enough power? Pudge should hit about 15 which isn't horrible for a catcher. Howard had 22 homers in 312 ABs so he could hit anywhere from 35-45 in my opinion this year. 15 homers or so out of Giles from second base isn't terrible. Tejada will probably lead all shortstops in homers once again with 25-30. David Wright should hit around 30 homers this year. I don't really like his outfield all that much but Burrell and Lee should hit about 30 homers a piece. I think he needs to improve on Winn, Tavares and Ibanez, but Ibanez and Winn will hit about 20 each. So overall I'd say his power is decent. Not great but I dont see it being a problem for him.

I completely agree with you on Livan. I'd probably try to package him with Ibanez or Winn and try to upgrade to a better outfielder. I'd also consider punting saves if I were you and trading Wagner for a big bat. Having Wagner alone as your only closer won't really win you anything in the saves category in a 10 team league.

Felipe Alou announced that Winn is going to lead off this year, so that will hurt his rbi totals, but his run and stolen base totals should be higher.

He was also on fire last year after being traded to the Giants.

Yeah, he had an OPS above 1.000 if I remember correctly.

1.071 to be exact.

Maybe Dunn, Matsui, Sizemore, Beltran, Berkman, Hafner. You can probably find a team that really wants another good closer and won't mind downgrading a little bit on offense to get that closer. I don't know your categories so I can't really tell you who is best to go after, but I'm a big fan of Dunn, Berkman, and Hafner in leagues that count OPS.

I wouldn't suggest trading Wagner...your only closer in a shallow league. Doesn't seem like a good idea unless there's someone good on waivers/FA.

Like was said, not enough power. No top tier power hitter, which is suprising in a shallow league like that. A good bunch of middle tier guys, but no one to put you over the top.

I would see if you could rob someone of Abreu with Hernandez + Giles. If not, throw in Lee/Ibanez/Burrell instead of Giles.

Well having only one closer in a shallow league is guaranting him to have no chance in saves. You either have to pick up another closer or two or just punt the category and use Wagner as trade bait. I would first try to package Livan with someone to upgrade your offense but I don't think you'll get much for Livan. I also think adding one more good offense hitter will make you very good. I don't believe you need a "top tier power hitter" although I think you have one in Ryan Howard. When you are getting solid power numbers across the board you should be alright. You have 4 of the top 40 or so homerun hitters (Burrell, Lee, Wright, Tejada) and that isn't including Howard, who will probably be in the top 20 or so at least.

I wouldn't touch the pitching. It's not strong enough to remove an element. Baez is first in line if Gagne needs more time on the DL. Wagner can win you the saves category by himself occasionally with the team he plays on (I think the Mets will win a lot of games this year). Another closer could emerge as the season gets under way.

Nick Swisher is looking at a platoon, so he's basically worthless, IMO. Frank Thomas, Dan Johnson and Swisher at 1st and DH and with Milton Bradley, Mark Kotsay, Bobby Kielty and Jay Payton, Swisher might not get the at bats he'll need to reward him with a roster spot.

BJ Upton "might" open up the season in the minors. Unless Tampa finds a home for Lugo, I don't see any reason for Tampa to have Upton up with the big league club.

I'm not enamored with Tavares or Ibanez. If you need Willy's stolen bases, fine. But, if you need power I'd consider dumping Ibanez in favor of Wily Mo Pena or Austin Kearns or some other guy who will be playing full time this year instead of part time. Heck, Matt Murton could probably match what Ibanez provides. A lot of drafts probably completely forgot about Rocco Baldelli. Look what he did as a 21 and 22 year old at the major league level. If he's fully back from injury, look for him to put up good numbers around a much better supporting cast this year.

I wouldn't make any trades right now. Spend some time in the FA lists and see what might be available.

categories are H/AB, Runs, HR, RBI, SB, Total bases, and batting avg.

i just dropped Swisher for Kearns.

There is one team in my league that really fits the mold for a trading partnet, his best RP is Curt Schilling (who wont be relieving i dont think in 06), and he has Abreu, Hafner, M. Cabrera, Holliday, Tracy, and Baldelli in his outfield.

Possible trades he might go for?

If it's a 10 team league and there are 30 MLB teams.......

where are the closers? Chris Ray is slated to close for Baltimore. Tom Gordon in Phily. Borowski, McDougal, etc... There must be some closers available. Add anyone of them on to Wagner and saves can become a strength. Add a 3rd or if Gagne goes down, Baez makes the saves a strength.

Is the league roto or H2H?

head to head, all the closers you listed are taken, no starting closers left on the market.

edit: didnt realize that, sorry.

Unfortunately, you're going to get killed in saves then. If all the closers aren't evenly distributed throughout the rest of the teams, you have a couple teams that are hording them. You have some good starters, but I'd be scared to have Aaron Harang on my roster. I'd probably go with a stud set up man over a guy like that, or maybe find a starter that hasn't been picked up yet.

I'm not telling you to do this since I'm just going off a hunch, but I'll bet Odalis Perez is a free agent in your league. Look at his stats in even and odd years. He's due for another one of his "good" years. I drafted him in both of my leagues in the late rounds. Derek Lowe and Brad Penny are two guys I would pick up if they are free agents as well. The Dodgers are going to win their division and the pitchers in LA will grab more wins this year.

Did anyone draft Oliver Perez?
