I'm as paranoid about Dusty as anyone but I didn't read anything in his quotes to make me believe Grissom will be a big threat to Murton's status as starter. Sounds like Dusty views Grissom as a specialist to be used vs LHP. The one thing that does scare me a bit is that Dusty loves batter v. pitcher matchup numbers and Grissom has spent an eternity in the NL, and consequently has a ton of matchup data vs. veteran NL pitchers. I can see Murton sitting vs. a particular pitcher because Grissom had a good game against him back in the days when grunge ruled the airwaves.

I read the article as both Grissom and Baker implicitly acknowledging that the Cubs have a full time left fielder, and the writier trying to stir some crap up by suggesting Grissom is a fallback as a leftfielder.

the Olympic athletes marched into the stadium, and when the French team saw that many people marching, they just immediately surrendered .

Leno

I heard this a long time ago:

Q: Why does Paris have so many tree-lined boulevards?

A: So the Germans can march in the shade.

Good joke for its time, but I think the answer should be updated to "so the pro-infidel-beheading protesters can march in the shade"

he signed a minor league deal right? Will since he is "dusties kind of player" Baker will probably have him brought up within the first month of the season, despite his 2 buck batting average.

I can see it now "Baker calls up 39 year old Marquis Grisssom to play LF because Murtons average slipped from .300 to .295."

Please, Please let the kid play.

It's highly unlikely that Grissom will actually see time in the Minors. I'm sure the Cubs will release him if they actually had interest in him going to the Minors and giving him a chance to sign with another club. They've done this many times.

It's pretty simple situation for Grissom. The 5th OF spot is clearly his to lose. If he has a bad ST, the Cubs will release him and he'll probably end up retiring.

If he produces a "non spectacular but not terrible" SPring, let's say .275, he's the Cubs 5th OF spot.

Baker CLEARLY thinks a lot of him and he is in fact, a "dusty guy". That is undeniable.
