I happen to believe a lot of it is about money. Sure, the Cubs have been mismanaged over the years. And teams do win with low payrolls. But its a lot easier to win when you spend more money than everyone else. How many times have we gambled on an aging vet well past his prime when there have been top FA's available? I've been hoping for the Cubs to be sold for years, but never thought it might happen.

With the fan base the Cubs have, they should have a little more of a Yankee mentality. I don't believe for a second that the Cubs have made $4 million or whatever in any given year. Never mind the ticket scalping organization, but there is no way anyone can tell me that the media contracts are paying the Cubs fair value. What does the Trib care? They own both. In fact, its in their interest to screw the Cubs in favor of the media outlets. That way, they can just point to the $4 million they made and say they spent all they could on the team.

The Yankees START a cable network which is projected to be an absolute cash cow, and the Cubs are owned by one. This stinks to me, and always will. The fact is that the Trib is a publicly traded company that has to answer to shareholders.

I would love nothing more than the team to be sold to someone who isn't running the team to make money, but because he is loaded and wants a team. Maybe the Trib will succumb to pressure, but something tells me it might be wishful thinking.

Don't pretend any new buyer wouldn't be interested in a profit.

How can their failures be about money when they spend a lot more than most? They don't spend as much as the biggest spenders, but they spend as much, or more, than most of the consistently good teams. Look no further than Houston and STL, who each spend less than the Cubs and each outproduce. It can't be about money. At least, it's mostly not about the money. It's obviously a management problem, otherwise the Cubs wouldn't be consistently trailing Anaheim, Oakland, Houston, St. Louis, Minnesota and others.

Of course, no rich owner is simply going to throw away millions of bucks to win. I know that. But buying a sports franchise is historically not done for investment reasons. The money made is invested back into the team.

My assumption is that the Trib is fleecing the Cubs, and has been all along. The Yankees just started YES not long ago, and all the sudden Steinbrenner has tons more money to burn. The Cubs should own a cable network, not the other way around. I'm wondering how the most popular team in one of the biggest sports markets in sports is always complaining about money.

I just want an owner who doesn't have to answer to shareholders and invests the money back into the team. Nobody is expecting Cuban to pay 100 million dollar contracts out of his pocket.

I would love to have Cuban as an owner. While I doubt he would spend ridiculously, I could see him being very willing to spend for a player that management told him could push us over the top.

I think he'd listen to the fans and want to be the one who brought a World Series to Chicago's northside. I think that would be a challenge to him, and Cuban seems to be the individual who relishes meeting a challenge.

Yeah, I hope Cuban wouldn't bring his antics involving taking a perennial doormat and turning them into a perennial power.

Nice sarcasm but I DO think you know what I am talking about. And sorry, but I don't believe Cuban would do anything to make this team better. Throwing money at the problem doesn't always fix it.

Like I said, be careful of what you wish for.

Cuban has curbed his behavior recently and in my mind is justified in calling out the officiating in the NBA on occasion. When has he yelled at players?

I'll take a guy who would "embarrass" the fan by turning them into a contender. Frankly, I'm more embarrsed by the current lineup than anything Cuban could do.

You are entitled to your opinion but I disagree. Not into the win at any cost mentality.

BTW, Cuban is not justified in calling out the refs just because he owns a team.

Do you forget what happened when that big moron Steve McMichael called out the umpire from the booth after singing the 7th inning stretch? If you think it ended with him being booted from the park, it didn't. That cost the team.

I have a couple hundred million sitting around so i'm in as a buyer if the Cubs go up for sale. My first act as owner would be to fire MacPhail, Hendry and Dusty and replace them with NSBB members.

Okay, now I am seriously fearful. The WORST possible owner of a team is a die hard fan.

OK, now I am scared...the worst possible owner of a team is a die hard fan. You would think with your heart and not your head.

It's about time someone in the upper echelon of this organization cares about their team the way he does.

And you know that current regime doesn't care? How do you know that? Did they tell you that themselves? You must know someone with the Cubs to know such secret information.

For all you Mark Cuban fans, today the Mavericks announced that because their payroll has come under control, ticket prices will be reduced next year for some seats, including some nosebleed seats as low as $2.00.

"Our luxury tax is going to go way down for a variety of reasons, and we decided rather than sticking it in my pocket, we'll put it in the fans' pockets," Cuban said. "Those [seats] are the hardest to sell. But I never want to hear that Maverick tickets are too expensive. I'm just keeping my promise."

That settles it. Cuban's sanity proves he could never be the Cubs' owner.

I became a fan of Cuban's after he bought the Mavs. I like Cuban for the same reason I like Zambrano so much, the fire and passion. I have to say, I lost a little respect for the guy after the whole reality show venture, but I'd love to see him buy the Cubs.

Money isn't the issue with Cuban for me. He's a business man, but he's not in it to make money - what a concept haha. Cuban would inherit a HUGE Cub Fan base that will generate plenty of cash to restructure this organization from top to bottom. I think he'd be a great man for the challenge.

We were looking good a few seasons ago, and since, watched players like Vlad go through FA. We've had the money, it's just been poorly managed. I don't think Cuban would have spent his money the same way. The Trib has been good to us, but I'm ready for a change.

Wow. What a lunatic. Between this and his team topping nearly every set of NBA power rankings, I wouldn't want this bum here.

What is this based on? Nothing? All evidence points to him being a successful franchise owner.

And for those who think Cuban can't put together a successful team, the Mavs have won 12 in a row and now have the second best record in the NBA this season.

Ahhh Vance.... make that TIED for the second best record... GO SPURS GO!

Oh yeah.. it's quite evident that the Tribsters care so much about putting a winner on the field, rather than profiteering off the fans (and the bandwagoners)... take off the rose colored glasses RedIvyCub, where have you been over the years?

Cuban was on Dallas Sports Radio earlier this week, and he commented that he has hired an entire team of statiscians to help him track and develop data that isn't readily used in the NBA.

For example, everyone uses 3 pt. % as a barometer of how well a team shots the 3 pt. shot. Cuban took it one step further and broke down the 3 pt. shot into specific zones ... the corner 3 pt. shot, the angle 3 pt. shot and the straight away 3 pt. shot. They broke down San Antonio's 3 point % and noticed that while San Antonio is a pretty good 3 point shooting team based on overall 3 pt. %, they are significantly much poorer at shooting from the angle. So the Mavs incorporated it into their gameplan the last time they played the Spurs, and guarded the straight away 3 pointers closely at the expense of letting the Spurs have the angle 3 pointer. I looked up the box score from the last time the Mavs and Spurs faced off, and sure enough the Spurs shot significantly worse on their 3 pt. shots that night than they have for the season.

Yeah, Cuban's public persona is so loud and gets so much attention that the majority of basketball fans really dont realize how hard he works to improve his team. It's not just leather chairs and playstations in the locker room, he's taking risks and they're paying off.
