maybe i'm putting this in the wrong forum. if it is, please feel free to move it to the forum where it belongs...

i moved from illinois to brooklyn in june of '05. i bought the mlb.tv package and the mlbradio service to keep up with the cubs since i'm not in illinois anymore. my question is this...if there's any NYC cub fans on this board, do you know of any good bars/hangouts for cub fans in or around manhattan or brooklyn? it'd be good for me to find a place where i can watch the cubs with my fellow cub fans and not have to answer questions like "so what's the deal with that bartman guy?" from yankee fans. thanks.

as a matter of fact, pete rock was in chicago over the weekend doing a show. forgot where, though...zentra, perhaps?

cl smooth is a nickname i have because of my initials and i'm also a fan of the duo. the song puts a smile on my face everytime i hear it. the sax sample just kills it.

p.s. if you ever heard the original sample source from where that sax sample comes from, you will be in awe in how pete rock found a dope sample from such a crappy tune.

I've been here for years, and I've never found a hangout for Cubs fans, or Bears fans for that matter. But I haven't really been looking. There are Steelers and Eagles/Phillies bars near me, and I've heard of a Cleveland Indians place, though I've never been. I do run across Cubs fans all the time though. And it's not that hard to convince most bartenders to throw on a Cubs game for you, assuming it's being televised here (although it does take a lot of explaining to get them to channel 307 if they have directv).

Mad River on the UES was a good place to catch all the Bears games - I'm sure you can grab Cubs games there, especially on the weekends.

Funny you should mention this. Yesterday I drove past a well-reputed bar and grill on the north side of Lake Washington, which I found out closed shop. I fantasized for a while about turning it into a Cubs joint: "North Side Bar & Grill? Nah, NorSHORE Bar & Grill!" Seattle people might think it was a misspelling of Northshore, but Chicago transplants and Cubs fans would get the difference." I'd put a beer garden in the back for summer and smokers (there's a statewide smoking ban for public places in Washington), and the customers could watch Cub games or have WGN radio piped into their booths.

Unfortunately, I'm still paying my student loans and being a first-time restauranteur (or would that be restauranteuse? I am female) isn't something I really want to do. But I do wonder whether a Seattle Cubs bar would be popular for a long-term enterprise.

There's a bar in Cedar Rapids, IA doing very well even though they're openly advertising it's a Michigan Wolverines bar. If a Michigan bar can survive in the middle of Hawkeye country, a Cubs bar can survive anywhere.

KatJ, I think it would be a great idea. I know that every time I was seeing my friends in Bremerton (which is on the Northside of the water) or Port Orchard, we would be there during baseball season or not.

Interesting. :-k I could also hedge my bet with Gonzaga basketball through March Madness - I graduated from the law school there, and there are a lot of us (undergrad and other alumni) in the Seattle area. I wonder if I could get some rich Lake Forest Park folks to put up some investment capital... Mind you, I've never done anything like that before.

This would be pretty far out from Seattle downtown, though - you'd definitely need wheels to get there.

Bremerton/Port Orchard is actually a fair hike from the place I'm thinking of. That's almost on the other side of Puget Sound; this is north Lake Washington. You'd need to hop on the ferry and drive a ways... or drive a lonnng ways around the Sound.

Okay I am totally geeking out here: Santo is from Seattle area; Ryno is from Spokane - can you imagine the grand opening if I could get either one of them or both to come? =P~
