Who would we platoon him with?

Here are our options,, what one do you want to see out there against leftys?

John Mabry (another lefthanded hitter)

Adam Greenberg (another lefthanded hitter)

Marquis Grissom (increasing critics of Bakers use of vets, .217 last year and .322 3yr avg aginst leftys)

Jerry Hairston (hit .255 against leftys last season, .276 3yr avg)

Just your thoughts, is it Hairston or Grissom "if" he makes the team.

In addition what is the OF situation if you do play either Grissom or Hairston, do you want them in RF? Move Murton over to RF and play the platoon player (Grissom or Hairston) in LF?

Just wanted your thoughts.

Doesn't anyone here think that JJ will be traded during the middle of his contract?

Yes. He'll be traded to Baltimore for a mid-level prospect with the Cubs picking up most of the salary.

Jones should have never been signed in the first place, but Eric Byrnes would have made a very nice platoon partner. Unfortunatly, he signed for less than the Cubs were willing to offer a bench player.

And FWIW, Jones will kill he offense if he bats between Ramirez and Lee. It's a lock. He's a very mediocre hitter, and not one that was worth anything near what he got.

BP has a strong anti-Cub bias - they would criticize almost any move the Cubs make. IF JJ is platooned, he can be a very useful player, and the Cubs needed another LH bat in the lineup after Corey cratered. I also think that Murton or Cedeno will eventually be the #2 hitter on the Cubs.

they have a bias against teams that do dumb stuff. some of their writers are even self-loathing cub fans.

I hope everyone realizes that Jacque Jones at his absolute best (.300/.341/.511) is slightly above average for corner outfield production, and not that much better than what Sammy Sosa gave us in 2004. And the fact that Jones' production has been falling consistently, it'll be a miracle of we get Jones' celing production, which isn't that spectacular as it is.

i dont see how that proves anything at all.

that's probably because it doesn't.

unless you can go find some articles that show a real bias against the cubs, i don't think you have any chance of convincing anyone that bp hates us through nothing more than the clever use of the word "fixed."

Even with a platoon to keep Jones away from lefties he is barely able to achieve mediocrity, and when he plays every day he is just plain bad.

Ya, but but Jones said "he is working on it" what he is working on we don't know. I think a one yr contract with a trade clause in it would have been the best contract for him.

I think Henry is fullfilling the Canadian player quota establish by the Treaty of Ghent stating that all MLB teams must have some reference to a Canadian player in their orginization or at least a guy who has a name that sounds Canadian.

Read the treaty its there in black and white

I just want to say, let's throw in the towel. Let's give up now. Atleast if we did that I wouldn't have to read this constant moaning and ******* that the season is already over before it started.

No one is saying that. Even your most cynical posters (JC, Goony, me, etc) all agree that it's still possible to contend, but Hendry's offseason moves made it more difficult to contend without luck, great health and regression from St Louis and Houston to make it happen. Additionally, all of those aforementioned posters point out that that's not a good plan to count on things you cannot control in order to contend with a top 5 payroll.

It just sounded that way to me, sorry. I'll leave this thread, and stay away from threads with so much negativity in the future.

Instead of looking at it as negativity, look at it as invested criticism. If we were all negative, we wouldn't watch. We're just expressing frustration that something we are all invested in emotionally/financially is letting us down. It's not something to avoid. It's something to discuss.

Well I like the way Mike Murphy does it. It sounds funny. When I'm reading it all I do is cringe. Sorry. I always keep an optomistic approach and I look on Jone's bright side. Which is he COULD give us .280.

Like sign Esteban Loaiza?

i dont know if you read bp, but most of the writers there did indeed criticize the a's for the move.

IMO the reaction would have been much more critical if Hendry had made the same deal.

Do you even read BP?

Yes, and I even buy gas there on occasion.

(sorry about that)
