Does anyone have a list, or, rather, has it already been addressed in another thread? Thanks in advance for any help.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzito!

Adam Dunn is a free agent too, but everyone seems to think he's 100% guaranteed to go home to Houston.

Not that it matters for us, as we saw how far our $40MM in new money went this winter. But Maddux + Wood alone is $21MM. Pierre, Blanco, Hairston, Williamson, Walker and Ohman are not under contract for 2007 (roughly $14MM). Neither is Lee ($9MM), though you'd imagine that will get addressed long before this time next year. Aramis can opt out of his contract if he chooses to; if he does, that is $10.5MM in yet more money.

I wish we had some way of acquiring Andy Marte in case Aramis does in fact leave....

I thought the Reds would still have Dunn under control?

Dunn's not a FA until after the 07 season.

And since he'll be coming off a 52-homer season and just hitting his prime, there's no way Jim Hendry will give him the 5 years/$65 million that some other team (Blue Jays?) will.

I'm betting that Hendry will sign Pierre longterm, possibly doing what he's done with others, first signing a 1 year deal this winter, then ripping it up and going 3 years right before spring training. I also think he'll resign Lee this year, unless DLee wants to max out in his next contract. I suspect Ramirez will opt-out, if given the chance, but if he stays healthy and productive this year, Hendry will extend him a bit before he does opt out.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think that Aramis will opt out? I know that its his right in the contract, but I thought he was generally happy in Chicago. And, it's not like the market for injury-prone 3B is huge. I realize that Aramis has tremendous talent, but with his legs, who would be willing to take that big a risk on him?

Lee really sounded like he wanted to get his contract extended in the stuff i've heard from the convention, but who wouldn't say they want to be a Cub forever at the Cubs Convention?

For the same reason Prior opted for arbitration this year, because it was a right negotiated into his deal, and he could get a lot more money if he exercised that right. One big year and he could quite possibly be the most sought after free agent on the market.

If he can play 150 games, and match his 2004 line: .318/.373/.578, with 100+ runs scored, 100+ RBI, 30+ HR and 30+ doubles, with decent defense, he would be in-line to make a lot more than the 2 year $22.5 million guaranteed that is left on his contract. He could easily sign a 5/60 with a big 2006, and would be risking a lot to not take that option. Perhaps the Cubs could sign him for 4/48 before he would opt out. But all of that is better than 2/22.5.

if aramis plays 140 games this year and doesn't suck, he's opting out. there's a lot of money to be had if he does so, and this isn't st louis.

That's the very scary part of heading in 2006. This team is very average offensive, the 3rd best hitter will most likely be traded for who knows what before opening day. The 1st/2nd best hitters (Lee and/or Ramirez) can both be free agents after 2006. Jim Hendry will then have to go out and pick up huge bats next off season. He will simply have no choice. There's very little power coming from anywhere else in the lineup.
