And I'm about to get flamed terribly for this, but I don't think the Bears' secondary is all that great. It's just that the front seven is so damn good that QBs never have time to dissect the secondary and look for the right pass consistently. That was certainly the case in the Week 11 meeting.

You have a point, the front 7 does make the secondary better. However, the secondary is a very talented group. Mike Brown has performed at a very high level since he's been in the league. Neither Tillman or Vasher are "shutdown" corners, but both have exceptional playmaking abilities. Chris Harris is a rookie that is still proving himself, but I've liked what I have seen so far. Tillman,Vasher, and Brown have illustrated their talent in prior seasons, outside of this years dominating defense.

The week 11 was definitely a bright spot for the Bears defense, but its not like they went out and sacked opponents QB's 8 times every game. The Bears D doesn't blitz non stop, these DB's deserve much credit in regards to their cover and playmaking skills. I'm not sure if any single DB on the Bears is considered "great", but as a unit, they're one of the best in the league.

Our secondary is good, not great. Some analysts have gone as far to call Mike Brown the best safety in the league (I don't agree with that though). I think Tillman is a better corner than Vasher; Vasher might get more INTs, but he doesn't cover the other teams #1 like Tillman does. Tillman looked bad early in the year but hasn't been burned in recent weeks. I know its early, but I'm predicting a Pro-Bowl year for him next year. Vasher has came up with the big play this year. The secondary has good tacklers (Harris especially) and some play-makers, but coverage can be a bit suspect at times.

I wouldn't say you're wrong in saying its not a great secondary... but I think it is definitely a good one.

Looks like Skilling caved in. Forecasts call for a high of 36 on Sunday with moderate winds, but dry conditions.

Anybody else realize this thread is already 9 (premium) pages  It's only Thursday... though I do expect that it wouldn't be nearly as long if the other team didn't have fans here.

I'm rooting for Carolina, but I just don't see them pulling it out at the end. Late pick by Harris.

Bears 13

Panthers 10

You don't deserve to watch 24.

Jack Bauer disagrees.

Cannot wait for 24. Hope the game ends quickly so I can see Jack kill lots of people and thwart terrorist attempts only to learn there's a bigger one lying ahead.

We need to win in order for me to enjoy that show.

Yes please.

I wonder if Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida) is a Bears fan too.

Lucas is a fantastic shut down corner. Ask Plaxico Burress.

Gamble is a decent cover corner, but I agree that he's never really had any game where he made a game turning play or really stopped a wideout. His INTs have mostly been the result of QBs avoiding Lucas.

Banedon, it's possible, just a tiny little glimmer of possibility, that the reason Thomas Jones had so many more carries than Tiki did in their games against Carolina was that the Bears were up 10-0 in that game before you could blink an eye, whereas the G-men never had a lead to work with.

The real question is when has Plaxico ever shown up for a big game? I can assure you the Panther's DBs look that much better because of the same reasons you mentioned about the Bears CBs. QB's avoiding Lucas? Come on man is his middle name Champ Bailey? I think you are overrating your CBs a bit.

Possible, but Lucas tied for the NFC lead in picks last year with Seattle, and has saved us in more than a couple of games (saved us from an embarrassing loss to Arizona by picking off McCown twice in the red zone or end zone for instance). Kenny also got some Pro Bowl buzz although in the end he was edged out by Ronde Barber. I think it's more underrating by everyone else than overrating by me. Maybe I'm crazy, though.

And to most everybody else, see he died last season, at least, that's what I gathered from the couple episodes I saw. But wait, what about that ending....... Oh my god, he's not dead! Holy .....

I have a question:

If it's so difficult for a "postseason-inexperienced quarterback" to win in the playoffs, as I keep reading on all the "expert" sites, how did Jake Delhomme get a 4-1 playoff record, or Tom Brady get a 10-0 (or whatever it is) playoff record?

Maybe the rest of the team has something to do with it too...

Delhomme and Brady were clutch regular-season QBs too, though - it just happened to carry over into the playoffs. Delhomme led eight game winning drives for the Panthers in 2003. Brady got his reputation by leading clutch drives against Oakland and STL in 2001. Some QBs are meant for the playoffs.

I agree wholeheartedly.

People take a "show me" attitude in the playoffs, but that just means they are late to the party everytime. Once you've shown them, they will stick with you to the end.

Time to put up or shut up.

It's Friday afternoon. The Bears have been anywhere from 2.5 to 3 point favorites for this game. Last I saw was Bears -3.

What are you taking?

I'm taking the Bears and giving the points.
