I like Meche he has a load of talent but injuries and not being able to put anything together has made a bust so far, remind me of Patterson. Pitching deprived teams might like Meche more than Patterson.

Patterson for Meche would surprise me. It doesn't seem like it would free up much money for a potential Tejada deal. Patterson for a B+ prospect or something of that nature frees up close to 3m, as would Walker if they found a way to move him. Could Walker be part of a deal for Tejada? Can Brian Roberts still play SS?

I suppose Hendry could make it work, but I was thinking they were getting tight on the budget. I guess the scary part of that is that Prior very well could be part of a deal for Tejada.

I think trading prior probably a 50 percent chance of being very regrettable.

There has to be another reason that Hendry would move Prior outside of the fact he could get a little more expensive than anticipated. And it better be a darn good reason. Of course, it's only speculation right now, so...

I sure wish they had traded guzman three years ago . . . if he trades zambrano, then I something something

Many scouts feel Meche has some of the best stuff in the American League, and all that he lacked was confidence. He seems to have regained his edge late in 2004 after returning from the minors. Some feel Meche has a chance to win 15-20 games and become the dominant arm on the Mariners' staff. He'll get that chance in 2005.

He didn't take any steps forward last year but he reminds me of Matt Clement . Great stuff just hasn't put it together for some reason or another. Could he be this years John Garland?

his k rates don't indicate great stuff.

When you have injuries and control problems your stuff doesn't all come together he's a project just like Corey. Sometimes a pitchers "stuff" doesn't show up in numbers thats why teams use Scouts and not just use computers and charts.

I guess whether he gets people out is more important to me than whether scouts think he has great stuff. not that I wouldn't trade corey for him as there are always Carpenters out there.

What happened? Last year JH was in a position to tell teams that he wasn't trading Hill for Dunn and now Hill seems to have to be a throw-in.

Hendry was mocked for saying the hill/dunn thing, he could still exercise his right to hyperbole and say it again.

After reading this again, I went over to metsblog/hotstovereport to numb my brain - and alas - I found this:

…so, rosenthal’s report makes me wonder if the phillies haven’t wiggled in to a three-way deal involving tejada…the o’s have been linked to a ton of pitching in their talks, such as RHP Mark Prior…i’m wondering if the phillies could send abreu to the o’s to replace tejada’s offense, and get a guy like RHP Jose Contreras, or prior, or RHP Brandon Backe in a three-way…i’m just thinking out loud, though…this is far from anything i have heard or read any place…

I just think it's hilarious that Jose Contreras, Mark Prior and Brandon Backe can be named in the same sentence regarding trade talks. Absolutely HILARIOUS. I know that he wasn't making a comparison, but Prior's value far exeeds the other two and would have to involve a completely different type of deal. The trio of Abreu, Tejada and Prior all makes sense, but Contreras and Backe??? Gimme a break. This is the same Contrares that's expecting to get a 3/$33Mill. contract. Then he'll be over-rated. over-paid and over-the-hill. (The last part's funny because he's really like 58 years old.)

Hopefully he has his DeLorean time machine ready. :D
