Greg Colburn-Righty power bat off the bench can play third, some outifled, first base, catcher in emergency.

Eli Marrero- Another guy than can run a little , hit with some pop , can play all over the diamond including Catcher.

Sounds good. He can be a good back-up for Lee and Ramirez when they need rest.

Yes, the guy can run and "he can catch the ball." He should definately be on the Cubs.

Colbrunn has played in 42 games since 2003. He's been a super-sub his whole career and wouldn't be a bad NRI, but you've got to wonder if there's anything he has that would warrant holding a younger prospect alternative back from getting experience in the bigs. The fact that he was out of baseball last year (injury?) is a concern.

I don't like the idea of prospects as bench players. I'd rather have them play everyday at AAA.

Depends on the prospect. Someone like Pie? Everyday at AAA. Someone like Theriot or Fontenot? That's what his ceiling is at the major league level anyway, so if you have a need don't hesitate to plug him in to the bench.

True, but i was considering higher ceiling prospects like Pie anyways. Theriot or Fontenot would be cheap and fine by me.

Great, with those two available, we don't need to re-sign perez and can use the savings to go after giles!

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the Cubs SIGN JOHN MABRY for the role you describe?

Eli Marrero? Not a bad NRI.

Yes but Mabry hits left handed both Marrero and Colburn from the right side. The cubs don't have a power hitting RH off the bench. With Cedeno, Perez, Hairston,Mabry the cubs already have a lot of flexability but still lack a powe threat from the right side the fact that both of these guys can play all over only helps

Here's my question:

Why didn't the Cubs trade for Macoiwak if he was available?

Because he cost more then Neifi and is basically Hairston with a little more power.
