Special Assistant to Hendry:

Slam[/url]"]Bye bye

With Ted Lekus, the Jays scout with the longest tenure at 17 years, and Chris Buckley, with the second longest, leaving the organization last month nary a scout who earned a World Series ring in 1992-93 remains with the Jays.

Lekus joined the Baltimore Orioles as a pro scout, while Buckley becomes a special assistant to Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry.

Buckley moved to the Cubs at the same time former Jays scouting director Tim Wilken left the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to join the Cubs as director of amateur and pro scouting.

"I enjoyed my 16 years with Toronto, every minute of it," Buckley said from Tampa, Fla.

"I have a long friendship with these guys, I've known Jim Hendry since the early 1990s and Tim Wilken longer than that."

The departures leaves Tony Arias as the scout with the most service.

"I'm rooting for the Jays," Buckley said. "I was either scouting director or a cross-checker for 10 years. Whenever we had to promote a player we knew someone was ready, or when we had to trade a player, we had someone ready. Our farm system must have been okay."

Hendry has gone Blue Jay crazy. The Jays also have been a pretty toolsy organization with the only difference being they had more quality young players and actually played them.

JP is cleaning house. All of the old-school "tool" guys are gone.

If Hendry manages to get an extension it will be interesting to see the path the two organizations take.

My money is on Toronto.

Buckley probably had made the choice, Wilken probably sealed the deal for him to switch organizations. I assume Buckley will have the same role in Chicago as he did in Toronto under Riccardi and previously w/Ash as well.

As Wilken was mostly responsible for the drafts in the 90s, Buckley ran the drafts of early 00s.

Still curious about the area scouts, though. They're the ones that make it happen as well as the bird-dogs.

assuming you spelled it "DoPo" on purpose because you wanted to malign depodesta's character by referring to him as a dope, this is my favorite post of all time.

i doubt it's the same person, im sure all major league teams are required to do a routine drug screening with all new hires.
