Illinois-Wisco tomorrow...Illinois could take a huge step in winning the conference with a big road W tomorrow at Wisky.

Illinois is hitting Wisconsin at the right time. No Landry or Stiemsma. After the Michigan game, Taylor is Questionable and Flowers and Krabbenhoft are Day to Day.

Wow.

The road hasn't been too kind to U of I thus far(1-2). They are shooting 38% from the field in their 3 B10 road games, Dee Brown is shooting 28% (19% from 3) in those games. In their 4 B10 home games, 44% from the field, and Dee is shooting 47% (44% from 3).

I dislike him because he defended Pierre Pierce and even went so far as to say he was the victim in his first sexuall assualt charge. The man was the national president of the FCA when he was in college, yet he sided with a rapist over a real victim.

That is a completely uninformed opinion. As someone with direct involvement with U of I athletics in recent years, and heavy involvement during both incidents with Pierce, I can tell you for a fact that Steve Alford is not the reason Pierce was given a second chance. I honestly am amazed he was able to keep his composure to 1) not scream "I told you so" to certain unnamed parties when the 2nd occurred and 2) to not beat the living crap out of Pierce either time. When the 2nd report came out, prior to Pierce being named as a suspect, Alford immediately kicked him off the team. That, as far as most of us know, was 100% his decision.

Back to the 1st incident. There was a belief amongst all involved that the incident was not as serious as it was first made to sound. That includes those associated with the women's basketball team (the victim was a player) as well as local prosecutors. It was not solely an Alford decision (if it was up to him, Pierre would likely have been gone), and it was also not entirely Bowlsby either. I never actually spoke to the victim about the incident, but the general impression given from her to others around was that she was OK with how his punishment transpired.

Now, if you want to form an opinion of Steve Alford based on Pierre Pierce's incidents, your opinion should be that he is a man of integrity and class. If you want to form your opinion of Steve Alford based on his playing history or coaching resume, then feel free to discuss. However, if you want to spew out inaccuracies and use those as your basis for your opinon, please do not mention it again.

Iowa's cupboard indeed will be bare.

But what about Illinois'?

No Augustine or Brown next season for the Illini.

Eric Gordon, Brian Carlwell, Richard Smerau, Billy Cole, and Mike Tisdale are all four or five stars. We are reloading. If we can add either Dar Tucker or Derrek Rose we will be great again.

and because Steve Alford is your coach

Stop listening to B&B before you form your Alford opinions. If you dislike him, it should be solely for the reason that he is a bad coach.

I dislike him because he defended Pierre Pierce and even went so far as to say he was the victim in his first sexuall assualt charge. The man was the national president of the FCA when he was in college, yet he sided with a rapist over a real victim. The fact that he has destroyed Iowa's program I like hjim for. I realize you guys are good this year, but after this year you guys will be really horrible.

Find me where he said Pierre was the vicitim. Not once did that take place. He also never sided with Pierre over the victim. I also doubt that you know what actually took place, but it surely wasn't rape. There are a few reasons why the female and her family were so willing to settle so that the details didn't go public.

Also how can you say we're good this year but will be "really horrible" afterward? You were on this board this summer saying that our lack of success the past few years wasn't Alford's fault, it was because we had no talent. So first of all how are we good without any talent this year and why will be worse if we aren't losing any talent?

And who can forget your guarantee after the '03 football season that Iowa football would take a big step backwards because we were losing Gallery and Russell. Of course we improved by 2 games between the two years, but hey who cares.

Yeah I admitted I was wrong about your football. They have however, regressed back to the middle of the Big Ten. Alford is a coach who hasn't had a alot of talent, but guess what everyone of those players he recruited. He has no one to blame but himelf for the lack of talent. After this years seniors leave you guys are really looking rough. Henderson and Haluska are good players, but the other guys don't show much at all. Alford in my opinion didn't learn how to build a program and that is his downfall, well that and he hasn't recruited his own state very well. Korver and Jacobson come to mind, how did he lose them to mid majors? How about me disliking him because last year he said he had the book on how to beat Illinois, even though his team never did. How about the fact he fought to have the tickets to the illinois game this year made unavailable until a week before the game. Way to cost your school a ton of money in lost ticket sales because you are embarrased that more of our fans would rather travel to watch us play than show up at home to cheer on the hawkeyes. How about when he called his team the big ten champions when they won the tournament title. No Steve you weren't Big Ten champions.

So far unless we add Leon Freeman. But I have heard that Leon might not qualify. We also add Trent Meachum a walkon who started as a freshmen at Dayton. We will probably regress some, but when Gordon's class comes in we should be pretty good again.

i think illinois will be down quite a bit next year. our guards will be pretty weak with frazier or brock at the point, and 2 guys who do little more than shoot open 3s at the 2 guard. we definitely will need big contributions from randle, if he's up to it. our big guys will be average, imo.

In my opinion Trent Meachum will be higher in the depth chart at point then Brock. With Chester's lack of offense, Trent might even push him for the starting job. I forget which school he transfered from, but i believe he was expected to be a starter there this year.

I'd think they will lose White and very possibly Vaden if Davis is fired. I'm not sure about the rest.

I've heard this previously. Is Davis really that charismatic? Does White really deem his tutelage to be more important than the extra year of eligibilty and/or to play for the Hoosiers? It was fairly obvious why some of the best players didn't want to "torture" themselves under Knight. IMO, keeping White will very much depend upon who IU would hire subsequent to Davis's potential departure.

Well, if White ops for the medical redshirt, then sits out next year as a transfer, he's still have two years of eligability at another school. The only reason I threw Vaden in there is because of his flip-flop in high school. He originally verbally commited to Purdue, but when Gene Keady couldn't guarantee he would be there for four years, Vaden changed his mind. He is however from Indiana and may be more likely to stick around.

I'd say you are right though; who leaves and who stays will likely depend largely on who is hired to replace Davis if/when it comes to that.

Uhh? Gordon, Smith, Frazier, McBride, Pruitt, Randle, Semrau, maybe Freemen, Beverly, and Rose. Am I forgetting anyone?

I'm sure they'll be ranked at least.

Gordon doesn't come in til 2007-2008 class, Beverly has stated that Illinois is out of it now, Rose no one knows about. Hopefully we get Freemen (if he qualifies) or Darquavis Tucker who shortened his list down to I think Mich St. Illinois and Uconn..

Regressed to the middle of the Big Ten? LOL, wow you're funny. We finish tied for 3rd one season (after losing 3 defensive lineman to the NFL and losing a couple of games that came down to the last play) and all of a sudden we've regressed to the middle of the Big Ten? So in the last four years we've tied for two championships and the lowest we've finished is tied for 3rd. You lack any objectivity. That would be like me saying Illinois basketball has regressed to the middle of the Big Ten if they finish 3rd in basketball this year, which is very possible. Seriously, put your dislike or hatred aside and look at it objectively. It's not that hard for an adult. I can do it very well when analyzing Illinois basketball. When you don't, you make yourself look ridiculous.

Secondly I really don't care if you like Steve Alford. Many Iowa fans don't. But again you look ridiculous for changing your reasons after you were called out on lies in your first post. You had no clue on the facts and were telling blatant lies (Alford said Pierre was the victim, blatant lie) to support your opinion. Now you don't like him for all of these reasons?

Again you failed to get the facts right. The tickets for the Illinois game were available long before the week before the game. And he didn't cost his school any money because the game was a sellout.

But hey why let the facts get in the way of another one of your rants, right?

Good Lord.

Illinois might be down nationally, but in the Big Ten they could do just fine. I always think of teams in respect of their competition, and the Big Ten could change a bunch next year.

Off the top of my head, some key potential losses (not sure on all of them):

Michigan: Horton, Brown, Abraham

MSU: Ager, Davis. Trannon?

Iowa: Horner, Brunner

Indiana: Killingsworth (only year of elgibility?),

OSU: Dials, Sylvester

Losing Brown and Augustine will be huge, but it won't be the end of the world. A lot of teams will be losing key players and will be re-tooling with high tier talent. I don't see a reason why Illlinois cannot compete next year.

fwiw, beverley has said that illinois is still in the hunt, it's his coach that has claimed to have removed illinois from the list.

i'm sick of coaches trying to dictate where players go.

Another exciting Illinois Wisconsin matchup tonight! It should be a great game for what has become a nice rivalry over the last 3 years or so. Illinois knows that they only play Wiscy once and this is it so they will be fired up. Wisconsin just fell out fo the top 25 and will be eager to show their homecourt advantage still means something.

I don't think Wisconsin matches up well with Augustine and I don't think Illinois matches up well with Tucker. The matchup to watch is Chris Rock vs. Dee Brown.

My roomates (Illini alums) and myself (Badger) have been giving each other crap all week regarding this game. I'm pumped!

Michigan is in the top 20 for the first time since 98. Good lord.

I would think that pretty unlikely. Especially considering the fact Weber said he was giving Randle a "Crash course in post defense." He's likely to get in foul trouble on the road anyway. If Tucker scores under 20 I'd consider it a job well done by Illinois.

that would be a first, seeing as how nobody has scored 20 on randle yet, and he always draws the opposing team's best offensive player.

He draws the best offensive player in Big Ten play tonight, without much post defense expierence, at the Kohl Center. I feel fairly confident that Tucker will get his.

It's unusual that Tucker is still high on MSU, because they really don't have a scholarship for him with Summers/Allen/Lucas coming in, unless they get an unexpected academic scholarship.

No doubt he'll get his and quite probably draw 2-3 fouls on Randle within the first 5 minutes. It's the Big Ten, it's the road therefore, I fully expect UW to shot around 30-35 FT's to UI's 10 and squeeze out a close victory.

That's my rational. Home Teams have been shooting an average of 8.5 more free throws per game in Big Ten play. A player who already draws the most fouls on the Illini, against the home team's best player, is likely to get into foul trouble. Tucker shoots his free throws better without the plasty face.

These game have been exciting in years past so I expect a great game tonight!

Again its Lester Abram, and he should be back next year because he is only a junior and as we all know he hasn't been healthy enough to justify leaving the team. Horton and Brown will be big losses, but unless Michigan goes far in the NCAA tourney and Courtney Sims makes a name for himself, he will be back as well as Dion Harris to keep the team looking solid with a couple of youngins like Coleman getting experience this year.
