Wouldn't it make more sense to use the same voting procedures as the BBWA uses?

Ask everyone who they would place on their ballot and see who comes up with 75%.

I would pick Sutter, Blyleven.

Maybe...but I didn't feel like tabulating it.

With the individual polls, I can see who gets 75% and we also have a separate thread to debate each candidate's credentials.

Are we really doing things any differently than BBWA? Just becasue there's a separate poll for each individual doesn't mean we aren't deciding who should go on the ballot and who shouldn't. The only difference is that we can see the results before we vote, and I'd assume most people aren't checking the results to sway their vote.

Just a reminder that all polls have been posted. Try to head over there and vote for the ten (or fewer) that you think belong in Cooperstown. I think the Hall announces the results next week, so please go and vote and we can see how well our votes stack up to those submitted by the BWAA.

Another reminder for everyone to go and vote. Some of the polls have as many as 60 votes cast, but some have as few as 30. Please go and vote yes or no on the candidates.

Right now, only Blyleven would be enshrined according to our vote.

Which is probably as it should be.

Next year is a different story.

In this article by Rob Neyer (who supports Blyleven), it appears as if Blyleven still doesn't have the support of the BBWAA.

And by the way, Bert Blyleven apparently will fare no better this year than he did last year, when he was named on 41 percent of the ballots. This, despite a fairly extensive campaign on many fronts to elucidate Blyleven's overwhelming qualifications for the Hall.

It's probably time to admit defeat. There's simply no way to convince enough voters in Blyleven's six remaining years of eligibility that he belongs, so he simply must join Gossage and Ron Santo on the small and unenviable list of great players who have been unfairly ignored by far too many baseball writers over the years. Maybe they should start a club and wear jackets that say "I was screwed by the BBWAA" on the back.

The HOF results will be announced today. If they vote as the NSBBers did, then the election would go as follows:

Blyleven: 91%

Lee Smith: 62%

Dawson: 62%

Trammell: 51%

Gossage: 47%

Belle: 46%

Rice: 42%

Murphy: 34%

That's all I'm listing, but as you can see, if NSBB held the keys to the HOF, only Blyleven would be going in.

I have a feeling no one gets in when the actual vote totals are announced, but that Sutter, Rice, and Dawson will come the closest.
