after the Jockstrap signing :( :( :( how much money is left on the payroll assuming say 100-105 million?

Still enough for another starting pitcher??

If so what starters are still available?

I know Millwood is out there but anyone else?

or is Hendry gonna add another bench player and call it an offseason?

I think any one of:

signing an innings eater starter

trading for Huff or Floyd or Wilkerson

trading for Miggy

+

signing a right handed platoon side

=

pretty good offseason...

unfortunately it seems the first part of that equation does not seem too likely right now and the best bet seems like signing another starter...

so is money there for doing that?

Macias. 1 year 9 million.

Sorry, couldn't stop myself.

That reminds me, I wonder why no one has picked up the versatile Macias.

He's too busy working out and being team captain for the panamanian team (i think thats the one he's on) for the world cup!

My God Vance. I just noticed you have over 17,000 posts!

ManEatingTarp, oh my ... is your sig a picture of 'that' play from the '85 WS? And I guess I should also ask if your s/n is in reference to 'that' rain delay in the '85 NLCS (both dumb questions probably)

By my calculations in the 2006 Cubs thread, there's about 9 million left assuming a 105 million payroll.

I've got approx. 10 M assuming 100M payroll. This includes estimates for Patterson, Hairston, Z, and Prior.

Here's the numbers I worked with.

C Michael Barrett- 4 million

1b Derrek Lee- 8.667 million

2b Todd Walker- 2.5

SS Ronny Cedeno 350K

3b Aramis Ramirez- 10.5

Lf Matt Murton 350 K

Cf Juan Pierre 5.5 (arb estimate)

Rf Jacque Jones 5.33

SP Kerry Wood 12

SP Mark Prior 3.55

SP Carlos Zambrano 5.5 (arb estimate)

SP Greg Maddux 9

SP Glendon Rusch 2.75

Bullpen

CL Ryan Dempster 5

Scott Williamson 2

Scott Eyre 3.7

Bob Howry 4

Will Ohman 400K

Micheal Wuertz 400K

Bench

John Mabry 1

Jerry Hairston 2.5 (arb est)

Corey Patterson 3 (arb est)

Neifi Perez 2.5

Henry Blanco 1.5

That's 24 players at 95.997 million.

Now, if Patterson and Walker are traded, there's an additional five million removed.

Where did you get the breakdown for Eyre's contract? I don't doubt you necessarily, but I haven't been able to find anything except from the sourceless Transaction Guy, who is normally pretty good and a Cubs fan to boot.

I used this site.

Thanks. I don't know if that signing bonus is entirely paid up front. It wouldn't be stunning if it was, but typically players don't go up-down-up in salary over a 3 year deal, or up-down before the option.
