Rotoworld:

Johnny Damon - OF - Red Sox

CBS4's Dan Roche is reporting that Johnny Damon has agreed to a four-year deal with the Yankees.

Extremely unconfirmed, so take it with a grain of salt at this point. Dec. 20 - 10:49 pm et

Looks like it's true.

Newsday

Johnny Damon and the Yankees have agreed to a four-year, $52 million deal, Newsday has learned.

Well we knew the Yanks would up the money and four years (though a bit much) is not terrible considering Boras was shouting 7 years. Damon should effectively solve the Yankee problem in CF for at least a couple years until his production tails off.

Maybe now is the time to deal Patterson to the Red Sox.

I think we'll see a Clement or Arroyo for the Mariners' Reed going down very soon.

Haha--Yankees have a need, they get Johnny Damon for a 4-year deal.

Cubs have a need, they get Jock Jones for a 3-year deal.

You need short and sweet evidence about the difference between winning and losing organizations? There you go.

And don't give me the canard about the Yankees and $$, the Cubs have plenty of money.

Wow. You would think that the Yankees would have learned their lesson from Kevin Brown and Randy Johnson: No one is worth 8 digits after 40. Well, maybe the freakshow that is Roger Clemens. I'm reading this because of the transit strike in New York. I'm not looking forward to the whining in the tabloid papers about Damon falling off the table in 2008, if not sooner.

Yes but we all know that money belongs in Tribster pockets dont we?

Another ridiculous contract the Yankees will be regretting in a couple of years. Although, I guess it doesn't really matter when you have a $200 million payroll.

Let's take a look at the Yanks lineup now:

Damon

Jeter

Sheffield

Rodriguez

Matsui

Giambi

Posada

Cano

1b?

Wow, that came from nowhere. I know the Yankees had been rumored to be interested, but nothing new came out lately. At least not that I'm aware of.

I guess this means Johnny will be clean shaven with short hair next year...

That's the most depressing thought about this signing.

Wow, Damon sure is cocky. Check out some of these quotes I pulled off of BDD:

We know George Steinbrenner’s reputation. He always wants to have the best players, and I think he showed that tonight.

I talked to Tito (Francona) and I told him they need to really get going because if not, I'm going to be on another team... I thought it would be tomorrow or Thursday when we agreed in principle but we were actually able to hammer things out today. Unfortunately Boston had other plans, I'm not sure if they knew I meant it but now I'm a Yankee. Hopefully now they'll go off and get one of the center fielders they've been courting for the last month or so.

“Our policy with the Yankees is to go out there and win… A good leadoff hitter is tough to find, and I think that New York just found the best leadoff hitter in the game.

Woah woah woah Mr. Primadona. Your a good player, one of the best? hardly. The best leadoff hitter in the game? Don't make me laugh....
