I wonder what happened to him. He only pitched in three games for West Tenn in 2005. Maybe he was injured.

Yep. Tommy John surgery in May.

“Last Wednesday in Dallas was a terrific day for the Cubs,” Hendry gushed. “Our two biggest needs in the winter were obviously adding quality people in the bullpen in front of (closer) Ryan Dempster and addressing the largest deficiency we had in the leadoff spot.”

Ummmmm....He does realize we don't currently have a RF, right? Unless he considers Patterson or Mabry to be it.

Here... we.... go... again....

Where we going?

Down hyperbole lane listening to the same ol broken record.

So now it's hyperbole to say that the Cubs currently don't have any options for RF other than Mabry and Patterson?

Ah. I'm sure I read about it at the time, but I'd forgotten about him since then until the reference in this thread.

Hyperbole is used here more than any other place. I think we should insitute hyperbole as NSBB's favorite word. That being said it sure as heck doesn't look like hyperbole to me when indeed we don't even look like a playoff contender and have many holes. Your buddy Moses Hendry better get to work.

ill say it again. hello 85 wins.

I have a very hard time envisioning this team finishing over .500, considering it's just as bad if not worse than last year's team which finished below .500.

Depending on who JH gets for RF, I don't see how you can say this team is worse than last year. We have a leadoff man, we have a closer for the whole year, we have 2 experienced setup men, and we have a stronger bench. Assuming Pierre and Walker are #1 & #2, that gives Lee and Ramirez many more RBI opportunities. With the bullpen roles set, we should lose far fewer games than last year. Finally, the first bat off of the bench won't be Macias. As with most teams, the wild card in the mix is injuries.

Exagerations have been made, outrage has been magnified. You can't deny that. It isn't ridiculous to say that the Cubs currently have no good options on the team at RF, but it is premature to say that Hendry will definitely not improve the position and that the team will fail miserably.

From now on, whenever anybody wants to whine, just post this:

*obligatory dropping of 1908 and criticism of Tribune for not dropping all the cash they have into getting a winning team*

*comment that Cubs fans have waited long enough*

*threat to stop being a Cubs fan if the management does such-and-such*

This way, we won't all be looking through the same post 5000 times.

That's not what was said. "He does realize we don't currently have a RF, right???" = drivel. There's been rumors of Wilkerson, Bradley, Jones & Abreu.

You think it's drivel, I think it drives home a point. It was a sarcastic response to some pretty insincere words coming out of Hendry's mouth.

Why do you pretend like there isn't a problem with the Cubs right now? Do you really think everything is fine?

Considering Hendry's past offseason and lack of OF options out there there is a very good reason to be concerned about the Cubs in 2006. Who are you tell us if we are whining? What exactly should be happy about? Hendry has done a poor job as I see it. If you don't look at the facts that is your problem. We don't need you to tell us what to post.

How can the Cubs be in that bad of shape ? The proposed budget still has about 18-20 mil. to spend. How can we down to the options of Jones or Encarnacion? Something has to happen here. I hope!!

Well if the Cubs have 18 to 20 Million to spend, their payroll will be at or over $110 Million, which we know won't happen.

In my estimation, with arbitration players, the Cubs payroll rith now is in the $91 to $93 Million range. Since I don't think the Cubs payroll will go much over $100, I don't see the Cubs having much more than $9 Million left.

A laid back guy whom with every opportunity you get defend Hendry and the organization and keep waiting for the big trade or signing to happen. Time is ticking as far as I'm concerned.

Walker is not on the list nor is Patterson. Does this also include the possible raises going to the arbitration elgible players?

What are your estimates for Pierre and Zambrano?

Oops, pardon me.

Walker should be on that list.

$86+ for 22 players.

I didn't include Patterson. I'm only including the following:

  • Players under contract
Arb eligible players I'm fairly sure will be on the club
0-3 guys I'm fairly sure will be on the club

So if you include Walker and Patterson which sounds like they might be back on the roster next year and include the raises to the arb elgible players it doesn't seem like we have much left.

Kerry Wood, 12M

Aramis Ramirez, 10.5M

Derrek Lee, 9.42M

Greg Maddux, 9M

Carlos Zambrano, ~6M *Arbitration eligible

Juan Pierre, ~5.5M *Arbitration eligible

Ryan Dempster, 5M

Michael Barrett, 4.13M

Bob Howry, 4M

Scott Eyre, 3.7M

Mark Prior, 3.55M

Corey Patterson, ~3M *Arbitration eligible

Glendon Rusch, 2.75M

Neifi Perez, 2.5M

Todd Walker, 2.5M

Jerry Hairston Jr., ~2.5M *Arbitration eligible

Henry Blanco, 1.5M

Scott Williamson, 2M

John Mabry, 1.075M

Will Ohman, ~700k *Arbitration eligible

Ronny Cedeno, 320k * League minimum

Matt Murton, 320k * League minimum

Roberto Novoa, 320k * League minimum

Jerome Williams, 320k * League minimum

Mike Wuertz, 320k * League minimum

= 92.925M with estimated arbitration cases. That would give us $7 - 12M to spend if the payroll is $100 - 105M

Or, $15-20M if Hairston, and when Walker and Patterson are traded.

How is giving Hendry a B- a defence @ every opportunity?? Also, I've said he's done enough to get canned by the end of this upcoming season, if they don't contend.

Walker is already included in that $86.

Raises for arb eligible Pierre, Zambrano, and Ohman are already in there.

Salaries for arb eligible Patterson and Hairston are not in there, because I'm not certain yet they're going to be on the ball club. Once they get tendered contract offers, I'll put them in tentatively.
