This was brought up on "Mike and Mike" (ESPN Radio) last week, and I thought it was interesting (so much so that I waited over a week to post the topic):

Would you rather have:

Clemens for 1 yr at $20 mill.

OR

Burnett for the contract he got from Tor. (5 yrs and $55 mill.)

My answer: Clemens.

I don't know how there can even be a debate on this. Obviously, you would take Clemens. I bet if Clemens were to pitch five years from now he would still be better than Burnett and he'd be 48 years old.

whoever gives Clemens 20mil is going to be paying him about 2mil a start. Clemens looked done at the end of the season. I think his back is about to give out.

Clemens is worth the gamble for a team a contender, but it wouldn't be for a team like the Blue Jays who trying to build for a run.

Depends on who is doing the signing. If someone like, say, the Cardinals sign Clemens, he'd very likely put up one of the greatest single seasons by a pitcher in the history of baseball, with something like maybe 30 wins. However, if we signed him, his age would finally catch up, and we'd likely have Maddux part deux.

But on the other hand, if we signed Burnett, his arm would probably fall off within a year, then we'd be stuck with the 5 year contract.

How about signing neither? Let them both go to the AL where at least they can't impact us too much.
