Looks like the O's are doing some shopping. Maybe Tejada's ploy is beginning to work. I'll be a little more concerned if they put their hat in the ring for a SP.

Eric Hinske - 1B - Blue Jays

The Orioles have some interest in acquiring Eric Hinske, who is out of Toronto's plans following the Lyle Overbay trade.

Hinske is owed about $10 million over the next two years, so the Jays would have to assume some salary in order to move him. They appeared prepared to do so. Dec. 12 - 12:17 pm et

Regardless of his latest statements, Tejada is obviously unhappy with the way his team has been run and the O's have good reason to go into rebuilding mode, so I won't believe Tejada is unavailable until O's management unequivocally states he is off the market. Failure to produce such a statement would IMO be a tacit admission that Tejada could be had for the right price.

I'm guessing that Tejada is trying to temper his public statements in the event he is not traded -- that way he might be able to avoid being booed by O's fans next year. If he really wants to be dealt, his agents can continue to convey his wishes to the Baltimore front office without all the media hoopla....

First of all, he said this to the Associated Press in a phone interview... how often do they get these things wrong? And then the Orioles entertained exploratory trade scenarios based on a report that was never even true? There was a quote from Sam Perlozzo (O's Manager) that he had called for Tejada and never got a call back. Then the O's talk to Tejada's agent and the O's decline comment... why not a denial? Wasn't there a quote from Flanagan that he was "not confident" after talking to his agent? Why didn't Tejada return calls from the Orioles the next day? Now - it was all a misunderstanding, story over? BS. The talks already started, they can now continue at the O's leisure or they can convince Tejada they're serious and get some pitching. Either way, Tejada said it and the Orioles have now been discussing it.

60 million things get discussed, but few happen. If Tejada is such a fusspot that they need to trade him for peanuts, it's one thing. If he's willing to be traded, but they figure to discuss it only so long as they can imagine getting tons and tons of talent (see Zambrano plus Pie plus Cedeno plus Hill type rumors...), then they probably won't discuss it very long.

We hear about all kinds of discussions.

-Hendry discussed Walker for Aaron Heilman. Short discussion.

-Hendry discussed Corey for Kyle Lohse. Short discussion.

-Hendry discussed Corey for Wilkeron. Short Discussion.

-Hendry discussed Corey for Pierre. Discussion on those terms, at least, was very short.

-Hendry disccused Corey for Sean Green. Short Discussion.

-Phillies discussed Abreu for Zambrano, or maybe settle for Prior. Short discussion.

-Hendry disccused signing Brian Giles, at short years and limited cost. Short discussion.

-Hendry calls Baltimore and says he's interested in Tejada. Probably a short discussion, if Baltimore said they'd need Zambrano or Prior. Of if Hendry said he's willing to offer Williams and Corey and one good prospect.

Lots of "discussions" are attempted. But many are grossly one-sided and very, very short.

I'd guess Tejada is one of those.

Maybe many of these aren't even "discussions". A discussion implies some back and forth, some degree of seriousness. If Baltimore calls up Hendry and says, "Hey, how about Tejada for Zambrano?" I'm not sure sure it really constitutes "discussion" for Hendry to say, "No way, how about jerome wiliams instead?" and for Baltimore to say, "No way, seeya later."

All this speculation could be ended very quickly. A reporter just needs to ask the O's GM point blank if Tejada is available, and demand a yes or no answer. An evasive answer would almost certainly equal a 'yes'.

Eh, instead of getting in involved with this circus I hope Hendry goes after a RF instead. If there is a chance at getting this Lugo or some other SS out there then do it. It sounds like that Baltimore situation is a bunch of drama those folks need to worry about. I just don't want Hendry sitting on his hands up to February on Tejada and they wind up keeping him in the end and we end up with Patterson in RF. You know ? :)
