One more side-topic, let's say they can only trade for either Abreu or Tejada...

Would you rather have Abreu and Cedeno or Tejada and Jones/Encarnacion, etc.

I would rather have Abreu and Cedeno assuming Baker would start Cedeno. If Baker started Perez, I'd rather see them go after Tejada and an overpaid RF'er.

So who are you willing to give up? Zambrano or Prior?

TBCF, why do you assume Baltimore would demand and get either? Hendry's said neither are being traded, so we're operating on the assumption that Hendry would try and trade a lot of young players.

Don't know, don't know what either team wants for them so it's impossible to gauge.

I'll let Hendry handle that aspect. :)

Reports(ESPN) had the Phillies asking for Prior in return for Abreu

If that's their asking price, you try and work down from there or if they're not going to budge, you weigh your options and decide if it's worth it.

It's a bartering system.

Anyone listening to Baseball 365 on ESPN 1000? My brother just called to tell me that Bruce Levine said the Cubs have serious interest in Miguel Tejada and because John Stockstill just left the Cubs as a scouting director for the Orioles, his first call was to the Cubs. Did anyone else hear it?

i heard the same report 20 min ago. Not sure if it has any relevance to wat the cubs could be offering.

It really makes sense that the O's want to start getting younger IMO. Even if they get Prior for Tejada they will still stink and not compete.

Also in the Bruce Levine update they said the reason Tejada doesn't want to play there is personal with Ramon Hernandez and the Orioles knew that and still signed him. Levine said Hendry has had a serious discussion about their needs and what we have and they'll continue to talk about names today and tomorrow.

It's not relevant that Stockstill scouted the young talent in our organization and might have interest in guys like Pie, Cedeno and Hill. If anything, it's possible that they might take minor league studs rather than asking for Prior or Zambrano.

So that's two players now that Tejada has had so many personal problems with, that they affected (supposedly) his on the field ability.

Clubhouse problem?

Erik Bedard, Daniel Cabrera, Jerome Williams, Rich Hill, Angel Guzman

Hey, O's that's an awesome rotation you've got there! Thanks for Miggy and Markakis.

No he's not. And who cares if he was. He's a saint compared to Milton Bradley - the guy that 80% of NSBB is drooling over.

A problem worth having.

Yeah. There very well might be others, both reported and unreported, but this it two now in the recent past... I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I'm not in love with Tejada, but he is a clubhouse leader. Those guys tend to be involved in any conflicts. Sosa was a problem child, so I find it hard to blame Miggy based on that reported conflict (details are sketchy). What on earth happened with Hernandez?

One thing is for sure, this team lacks a leader.

Numerous teammates in Texas hated ARod. Would that stop you from taking him?

Tejada doesn't like Hernandez from his A's days and I'm pretty sure he and Sosa were good friends.

I'm not saying that it's Miggy's fault. His numbers at the end of the year took a hit and everyone said it was due to his riff with Sosa. Now, he's demanding a trade because of the O's signing a player that he doesn't like. I'm just worried that he might do the same in Chicago. What if he and Prior don't get along? Will he demand that the team trade one or the other?

Who is everyone?

It is more than likely that his numbers took a dip b/c Baltimore was hopelessly out of the playoff picture and he had to field endless questions about steriods, thanks to our ould pal Raffy.

These guys are professionals. I cannot understand anyway it would even be remotly possible that one player disliking another could ever affect how that player produces.

This is the first time he's asked to be traded in his what, 9 year career? He's human and perhaps human emotion does get to him. He was said to be ostracized and depressed through the second half of last season (riff with Sosa, Raffy saying he gave him tainted B-12, team inevitably failing, etc.) Now this year he and his friends, such as Mora, are disappointed with the team's direction, disappointed with the lack of pitching and then they sign a guy that you apparently have a personal problem with... it all seems pretty rational to me. It's not like Manny asking for a trade then changing his mind every 2 months. I've never heard that Tejada is a clubhouse problem, I've never heard that he does anything less than energize a team. So he had a problem with Sosa... doesn't everyone? I have no idea what the issue with Ramon Hernandez is though -- I thought I read he was Tejada's kid's godfather? Who knows what happened between them but I think it's a stretch to imagine that it's significant and common enough to avoid him.

I wonder if the the O's are considering getting real young and treating 2006 as a rebuilding year. It might be a good idea for them, and an O's fire sale would be fun for everyone else.

They have IMO and even if they get Manny...again they won't compete in the East. They need to build some youth and young pitching would be perfect for them to get started. And yes, a Baltimore fire sale would be a blast. I don't see them trading Roberts though.

Is anyone else worried about the steroid allegations against him? Didn't I see someone else post that he only had two HRs last year after he was named??

The smartest thing the Orioles could do is start rebuilding and that means trading away Tejada, Lopez, and Mora. If this happens though I feel awful for Jeff Conine. He just left the rebuilding Marlins to go to the Orioles. With that said I don't think Peter Angelos will allow them to rebuild right now. They have to do everything in their power to be competetive, with the Nationals already stealing some of their fans. I am going to reiterate my belief that the Orioles are going to have to get a quality Major Leaguer back in return for Tejada. I would just do the firesale but I can't fathom an organization like Baltimore doing that.

I don't know how any could not want Tejada on their team. He is a heck of a ballplayer.

They do look at least 2 years away from competing in the AL East, or even for the wild card. Without Tejada things just get worse, and Mora is unhappy too. If I were in charge in Baltimore I would absolutely treat 2006 as a rebuilding period.

If Angelos is foolish enough to compete with a team in the National league instead of his own division he should sell the team. He should have re-signed Ryan in the first place if he wanted to show the Wash/Balt area he wanted to win.
